Jets Player Release

Jets roster cutdown tracker (Woodhead stays)

Admin - September 4, 2009

The New York Jets will have to trim their roster size down to 55 players by 6PM EST, September 4th. TE Jack Simmons, TE Kevin Brock and WR Marcus Henry are the first ones to go, according to the Star Ledger.

There's really no surprise here. As I said yesterday, Simmons had zero chance of making the squad after so many drops, including a sure touchdown last night. Kevin Brock was too far down on the depth chart to have a chance of making this team. Henry was drafted by the Jets last year and spent last season on the practice squad. He never really showed anything to put a claim for a roster spot.

So, the Jets now have 72 players on their roster and will waive 17 more. PK Parker Douglass, FB Brock Christopher, CB Rashad Barksdale and RB Anthony Kimble seem like sure goners, which leaves 13 to go.

UPDATE (9:52AM): According to the New York Post, TE Kareem Brown, FB Jehuu Caulcrick, OT Stanley Daniels, RB Anthony Kimble, OG Ryan McKee and WR Britt Davis were also cut yesterday.

UPDATE (2:45PM): It's been confirmed that the Jets released FB Jehuu Caulcrick and kept RB Danny Woodhead, who ran for over 150 yards in the last preseason game, on the roster. So, coach Ryan is going with 4 running backs and 1 fullback, assuming that FB Brock Christopher is also among the released players.

As of 2:50PM EST, we have information about 9 players being released, which leaves 11 to go.

UPDATE (3:46PM): LB Kenwin Cummings has also been cut.
