Injuries

Gholston out against Jaguars

Admin - November 12, 2009

LB Vernon Gholston will most likely not play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he's missed his second straight practice today with a hamstring injury, which he suffered during Monday's walkthrough practice. Gholston, who was picked 6th overall in 2008, has been a major disappointment on the field. He is yet to register a sack in the NFL and has been a non-factor in limited action on defense and special teams this season despite starting in the position vacated by LB Calvin Pace who was suspended for the first four games of the season. WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) was very limited in practice, and he looks to be a long shot for Sunday.

QB Mark Sanchez is taking this cold-weather thing very seriously. For the second straight day, he practiced in shirt sleeves, bare arms exposed to the elements. It wasn't that big a deal yesterday, but it was considerably colder today, and he was one of maybe two or three players who opted for the sleeveless look.

Sanchez is learning on the fly. He no longer takes as many pre-game warmup throws as he used to. He used to make 50 throws before every game, but on a tip from second-year QB Kevin O'Connell, he scaled back to soft tossing.
