Jets rise in power rankings, fall in Fox Sports poll

Admin - December 29, 2009

Following their win against the previously undefeated Indianapolis Colts, the New York Jets moved up in power rankings on two of the three major sports websites. ESPN had the Gang Green up 5 points (from #19 to #14). CBS Sports moved them 6 spots up (from #17 to #11). FOX Sports, however, well I am not even sure what to say about this one... they lowered the Jets' position in their rankings from #20 to #22. The Jets won, and even though it was mostly against backups, they still won. But I guess it was a good enough reason for "experts" at FOX Sports to lower their stock.

Here's what the top 3 websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN:  Talk about Christmas giving. The Colts benched their starters to give the Jets one win, and the Bengals might help New York's playoff push by resting some players, too.

FOX Sports: So the Jets beat the league's No. 1 team. Pinning the ears back and taking down Curtis Painter is not reason to make any quantum leaps in the rankings. Still, somehow, some way the Jets can make the playoffs with a rookie QB who leads the AFC in interceptions. All it takes is a win this weekend against the Bengals, who just clinched their division last week and may be lacking in the motivation department.

CBS Sports: The Jets have to win against Cincinnati and they are in the playoffs. Don't count on the Bengals sitting starters. They need it to have a chance to be the third seed.
