Jets finish outside top 10 in final power rankings

Admin - January 5, 2010

Two of the three major sports websites moved the Jets up in their final power rankings of the 2009 regular season but it still wasn't enough to get back to the top 10. ESPN had the Gang Green 2 spots up from #14 to #12. FOX Sports, who had oddly moved the Jets down in the previous week despite a win, had them up 4 places from #22 to #18. Only CBS Sports kept their ranking of the Jets unchanged - #11 as a week before.

Here's what the top 3 websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN:  The Jets fell short of the playoffs last year with Brett Favre but made it with rookie Mark Sanchez. Go figure.

FOX Sports: PLAYOFF PROGNOSIS: Why the Jets so low? Sure, their defense is studly. Yes, they can pound the ball. But in January, they're going to have to do that against better defenses looking to make Mark Sanchez prove he can avoid the rookie mistakes in the playoffs. By the way, beating backups of the Colts and Bengals is not reason to launch this team to the top of the rankings. Perspective, please.

CBS Sports: That defense is special. It led the league in scoring defense. My question is whether the Jets pass it well enough.
