According to ESPN.com, RB Thomas Jones will not restructure his contract and will be released this week. Jones, who will become a free agent March 5, was slated to receive a $3M roster bonus March 9 and a $2.8M base salary in 2010.
The Jets and WR Braylon Edwards are still far apart on contract talks, as the wide receiver wants a long term deal, while the Gang Green want to see Edwards to dedicate himself to the team’s offseason program and become more consistent in 2010. Edwards, who had 6 drops in regular season, caught 35 passes for 541 yards and 4 TDs in 12 games with the Jets. He is a restricted free agent and the club is expected to give him a 1-year tender offer of slightly more than $5M.

QB Mark Sanchez has decided to have surgery on his left knee and is expected to be ready for training camp. The Jets said earlier today that the operation will happen in the next few weeks. The surgery, believed to be arthroscopic in nature, will strengthen the patella-stabilizing ligament. Jets orthopedist Ken Montgomery will perform the surgery. Sanchez originally injured his left knee while playing at USC.
