Jets and Edwards still apart

Admin - February 27, 2010

The Jets and WR Braylon Edwards are still far apart on contract talks, as the wide receiver wants a long term deal, while the Gang Green want to see Edwards to dedicate himself to the team’s offseason program and become more consistent in 2010. Edwards, who had 6 drops in regular season, caught 35 passes for 541 yards and 4 TDs in 12 games with the Jets. He is a restricted free agent and the club is expected to give him a 1-year tender offer of slightly more than $5M.

RB Thomas Jones’ future with the club remains uncertain. The team wants the veteran, who turns 32 in August, to take a paycut or be released. Jones is slated to receive a $3M roster bonus on March 9 and a $2.8M base salary in 2010.

The Jets have also begun contract talks with C Nick Mangold and CB Darrelle Revis. It's essential that the two All Pros remain with the Jets and the team wants to sign both to long term extensions.
