Jets Player Release

Jets plan to release Thomas Jones

Admin - February 28, 2010

According to ESPN.com, RB Thomas Jones will not restructure his contract and will be released this week. Jones, who will become a free agent March 5, was slated to receive a $3M roster bonus March 9 and a $2.8M base salary in 2010.

Jones, who has played the last three seasons for the Jets, rushed for 1,402 yards and 14 TDs on 331 carries last season. He also led the AFC with 1,312 rushing yards and 13 TDs in 2008.

Jones, 32, considerably slowed down by the end of the season and pretty much became expendable with the emergence of rookie RB Shonn Greene, who lead the league in rushing in the playoffs.
