The New York Jets are hosting their first free agents this offseason - S Brodney Pool (Browns) and CB Marlin Jackson (Colts). The Jets, who have recently gotten rid of S Kerry Rhodes, CB Donald Strickland and CB Lito Sheppard, lack depth in their secondary and we should expect more free agent defensive backs in Florham Park in the coming days.
The New York Jets traded S Kerry Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday for a 4th round pick in this year's draft and a 7th round pick in 2011. This move hardly comes as a surprise, as Rhodes has stated quite a few times that he wanted out and his soft playing style didn't exactly fit in Rex Ryan's aggressive defense.
The New York Jets have traded their 2011 3rd round draft pick that could turn into a 2nd round pick to San Diego for CB Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie has one year left on his contract and there are no plans for his deal to be redone now.
According to ESPN.com, the New York Jets released CB Lito Sheppard, who was signed as a free agent before the last season. Sheppard was due a $10M roster bonus, so this move was pretty much expected, considering that Sheppard had a subpar season at best.

The New York Jets have placed a second-round tender on RB Leon Washington, which is basically a 1-year deal worth $1.759M that gives the Jets the right of first refusal. If another team makes a bid to sign Washington and the Jets decline to match the offer, the Gang Green would receive a second-round pick.

According to CSNNE.com, Patriots LB Adalius Thomas would be interested in playing for Rex Ryan. LB Bart Scott said on ESPN radio that he was hanging with Thomas during the Pro Bowl weekend and Thomas "made it public that he's expressed interest in joining [Ryan]. I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting."

According to the Star Ledger, CB Darrelle Revis and C Nick Mangold will probably have to wait until the 2010 season is over before they receive their contract extensions. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum met with the representatives of both players at the NFL Scouting Combine, but a new deal isn't imminent for either player, according to two people with knowledge of the talks who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak publicly.
