Jets To Let Cromartie, Brad Smith and Eric Smith Leave

According to some rumors, the Jets will not compete for the services of WR/KR Brad Smith, who's going to become an unrestricted free agent once the lockout is officially over. CB Antonio Cromartie, who recently stated that the Gang Green will receive "no hometown discount" if they try to re-sign him, will be let go as well. The team also will not re-sign S Eric Smith.

Brad Smith played an important role in the last few seasons both as a kickoff returner and also the center piece of the Jets wildcat package.

Cromartie, who was acquired last year vie a trade from the Chargers, had an up and down season. He started in 15 games, intercepted 3 passes but got burned quite a few times, as the opponents usually stayed away from CB Darrelle Revis and attacked him instead.

Eric Smith has spent his entire career with the Jets, starting in 20 games over 5 seasons. Last year he played in 13 games, defending 2 passes and registering 54 tackles (44 solo) and 1.0 sack.

Please tell me this is rumor is not from Incarcerated Bob, I think Brad Smith and Cro are gone, but Eric Smith I don't see.

Yeah, that's where the rumor came from. As for Eric Smith, I don't think that losing him is a such a big loss. He's a pretty average player, definitely not a starting safety material.

    incarceratedbob is not a source

which is why this is only a rumor, not an official report or anything like that. Although he's been right on quite a few occasions.

oh okay, "Jets To Let Cromartie, Brad Smith and Eric Smith Leave" made it seem like a done deal to me at first before I read the extra info, that's all.

"Although he's been right on quite a few occasions." This is what people say every time they quote the guy. He has NO sources, he makes guesses based on publicly available information. He cannot be considered a legitimate source of rumours any more than an article on Bleacher Report.

Eric Smith is better then your average player. That is not fair to say, he has only showed progress in the shots he has got on the field. He is no superstar, but he is a very good rotational/backup player. Letting him go would be a mistake.

    IncarceratedBob is a joke

I would suggest putting a "Rumored:" in front of the headline to clarify that there hasn't been an official word yet.
