Jets Preseason

Jets to let Cromartie, Brad Smith and Eric Smith leave

Admin - July 25, 2011

According to some rumors, the Jets will not compete for the services of WR/KR Brad Smith, who's going to become an unrestricted free agent once the lockout is officially over. CB Antonio Cromartie, who recently stated that the Gang Green will receive "no hometown discount" if they try to re-sign him, will be let go as well. The team also will not re-sign S Eric Smith.

Brad Smith played an important role in the last few seasons both as a kickoff returner and also the center piece of the Jets wildcat package.

Cromartie, who was acquired last year vie a trade from the Chargers, had an up and down season. He started in 15 games, intercepted 3 passes but got burned quite a few times, as the opponents usually stayed away from CB Darrelle Revis and attacked him instead.

Eric Smith has spent his entire career with the Jets, starting in 20 games over 5 seasons. Last year he played in 13 games, defending 2 passes and registering 54 tackles (44 solo) and 1.0 sack.
