Plaxico tweaks ankle, won’t practice

Admin - August 4, 2011

Recently signed WR Plaxico Burress injured his ankle while working out independetly and will not practice this afternoon. He will most likely miss the next few days as well. The injury is not related to the chronic ankle problems that Burress had while playing for the New York Giants. WR Jerricho Cotchery, on the other hand, is very close to coming back after being put on PUP list. Although Cotchery's days with the Jets could be numbered, as the team is expected to sign veteran WR Derrick Mason.

Despite the signing of S Brodney Pool, S Eric Smith will remain the starter. Rex Ryan indicated that Pool had a better offer from the Dallas Cowboys but chose to return to the Gang Green.

Meanwhile, WR Braylon Edwards, who's currently a free agent, might be in trouble with the law again. According to various reports, Edwards was involved in a bar brawl the other night and might be charged. While Rex Ryan indicated earlier this week that Edwards would be welcome back if he lowered his price, he's reportedly close to signing a 1-year deal with the 49ers.

UPDATE: The Jets have given Cotchery's agent permission talk to other teams. Cotchery, however, believes that he will be released as teams don't know if he's healthy enough to warrant a trade.
