The New York Jets just could not stay quiet throughout the entire free agency and they did finally make a splash today by trading for Denver's QB Tim Tebow, who became expendable after the Broncos signed Peyton Manning. The Jets will send their 4th and 6th round picks to Denver in exchange for the services of Tim Tebow, who beat the Gang Green last season with a stunning last minute drive, and Denver's 7th round pick.
One day after missing out on S Reggie Nelson, the New York Jets agreed on a 1-year $4M contract with free agent S LaRon Landry. Landry is a strong safety who's good against the run but struggles in coverage. After three pretty strong years to start his NFL career, Landry missed 15 games in the last two seasons due to various injuries. In 2010 he injured his Achilles tendon against the Eagles and later was placed on the injured reserve. On December 15, 2011, Washington's head coach Mike Shanahan stated that he believed Landry "would’ve been defensive player of the year" for the 2010 season had he not been injured. Landry was placed on the injured reserve in 2011 again due to the same injury.
The Gang Green's free agency campaign suffered its first setback today, as S Reggie Nelson, whom the Jets had offered a contract, decided to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals. Now the Jets will have to shift their focus to S LaRon Landry, who visited the Gang Green over the weekend as well. Landry, however, might be a gamble as he suffered a season ending Achilles injury last two seasons. Landry is good against the run but struggled in coverage. The Patriots are also reportedly interested in him.
The Jets finally made some moves today, signing two unrestricted free agents - QB Drew Stanton (Detroit) and WR Chaz Schilens (Oakland). Stanton will serve as Mark Sanchez's backup with pretty much no chance of ever winning the starting job, while Schilens, who's had injury problems, could be a sleeper. Both players were signed to 1-year contracts.

The Gang Green finally signed a couple of free agents who did not play for them last season. QB Drew Stanton, a former Lion, signed a 1-year deal worth $1.25M to be Mark Sanchez's backup. WR Chaz Schilens, who spent his entire career with the Raiders, signed a 1-year deal as well. His contract is worth $765K, $500K of which is guaranteed.
Today was another quiet day for the New York Jets, as one of the two players who were expected to visit them, S Brandon Merriweather, signed with the Washington Redskins and never made it to Florham Park. The other player was QB Drew Stanton, who did make it to the Jets training facility but did not receive an offer. He will have another meeting with the Jets tomorrow.
It was another quiet day for the New York Jets, as the Gang Green re-signed PK Nick Folk, who spent last two seasons with the team. Folk converted only 76% of his field goal attempts last season and the Jets intend to bring another kicker to training camp to compete with him.

The New York Jets have re-signed PK Nick Folk who converted only 76% of field goal attempts last year. The terms of the deal are unknown at this point, but hopefully this is a 1-year deal with no bonus, so the team can dump him anytime if a better option at kicker becomes available.
The New York Jets re-signed LB Bryan Thomas, who suffered a season ending injury last season, to a 1-year veteran's minimum. Thomas, 32, is the longest-tenured Jet who was drafted by the Gang Green in the first round in 2002. Once labeled a "bust", he never lived up to expectations of being the next John Abraham but did develop into a solid outside linebacker who started in 74 games since 2006. Thomas is a solid run defender and the Jets' perimeter run defense struggled without him last season.
NFL Free Agency will start today at 4PM ET with about 600 free agents hitting the open market. The New York Jets currently have around $14M of salary cap space, following the contract restructures of QB Mark Sanchez and OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and quite a few needs that have to be filled this offseason.

DT Sione Pouha, who started in 44 games for the Jets over the last 3 years, chose to stay with the Gang Green as he signed a 3-year deal instead of becoming an unrestricted free agent. Financial details of his new contract weren't immediately available.
The Peyton Manning sweepstakes are over for the New York Jets, as the team gave QB Mark Sanchez a 3-year $40.5M contract extension, keeping him under contract through 2016. The deal includes $20.5M in guarantees for 2012, bringing his total over five years to $58.25M, according to sources. He can make an additional $10M in escalators.
Mark Sanchez stinks. There are no two ways around it. He stunk up the entire 2011 NFL regular season, and nobody can tell me any different.
