We've known this for a few days but now it's official - the New York Jets have fired GM Mike Tannenbaum earlier today and will immediately start looking for his replacement. Head coach Rex Ryan will stay, according to Jets' owner Woody Johnson. Ryan has two years and approximately $6M remaining on his contract.

Well, the good thing is it's finally over, the Jets' horrible season that is. The Gang Green lost to the Buffalo Bills, 28-9, to finish the season 6-10, their first losing season under Rex Ryan. Once again QB Mark Sanchez, who started in place of injured QB Greg McElroy, struggled immensely, throwing his signature pick six and also losing a fumble.

According to a CBS Sports report, the New York Jets will most likely fire GM Mike Tannenbaum on Monday right after the season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Tannenbaum, who joined the Jets in 1997 as director of player contract negotiations, was promoted to general manager in 2006, replacing Terry Bradway who has remained with the team as a senior personnel executive. The Gang Green have reached the playoffs in only three of seven Tannenbaum's seasons as GM.
In a rather surprising twist of events, the New York Jets have announced that QB Mark Sanchez will start on Sunday in the season finale against the Buffalo Bills. QB Greg McElroy, who started last week against the San Diego Chargers and was supposed to start against Buffalo, reportedly suffered a concussion. The team discovered McElroy's condition earlier today after he experienced severe headaches while lifting weights. McElroy was sacked 11 times and suffered an abdominal injury in the loss against San Diego.

CB Antonio Cromartie and S LaRon Landry will represent the New York Jets at the Pro Bowl, as they both made the AFC squad as backups. Following the season-ending injury to CB Darrelle Revis, Cromartie became the Jets' premier shutdown corner and has performed admirably. He's defended 13 passes, intercepted 3 and returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown so far this season.

It all started pretty well for QB Greg McElroy, who made his first NFL start against the Chargers this afternoon. McElroy led the Jets to two early scoring drives, as the Gang Green took a 14-7 lead. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there on. McElroy's indecisiveness and offensive line's ineptitude led to 11 sacks for the Chargers, who rattled the first time starter and took over the game in the second half.

Well, just when you thought it could not get any worse, just when you thought it could not get any uglier, the Same Old Jets found a new way to embarrass themselves on the national stage. Rex Ryan's team had to win the remaining three games and get some help from other teams to earn a playoff berth, which they never deserved to begin with, but last night's abysmal showing ended all hopes they might have had to make it to the postseason.

WR Braylon Edwards is back with the Gang Green after being claimed off waivers this afternoon. He was released on Monday by the Seattle Seahawks after catching just 8 passes for 74 yards, 1 TD for them this season. Edwards is expected to step in for rookie WR Stephen Hill, who suffered a sprained knee on Sunday against the Jaguars.

The New York Jets made it two in a row on Sunday, as they rushed for over 160 yards on the way to a 17-10 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was exactly what the Jets needed to take pressure off struggling QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez once again committed a turnover when he fumbled in the first half, but that's pretty much where his mistakes ended. He was 12 of 19 for 111 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. The Gang Green really didn't need more from him, as RB Shonn Greene and RB Bilal Powell ran for 78 and 77 yards respectively and each scored a touchdown.

The ugly win against the Arizona Cardinals, who were just as bad, hardly impressed anyone, as the Gang Green's position barely changed in the latest power rankings. Both ESPN and CBS Sports thought that Rex Ryan's team deserved to move one spot up - to #22 and #20 respectively. Pro Football Weekly kept the Jets right where they were a week ago, at #21. ProFootballTalk placed the Gang Green four spots up, from #29 to #25, mostly because their last week's ranking was just too low. Finally, Brian Billick of FOX Sports lowered the Jets' stock from #23 to #25.

The struggling New York Jets needed a spark and they got it when Rex Ryan finally did what he should have done weeks ago, as he benched QB Mark Sanchez and replaced him with QB Greg McElroy. The move paid off instantly when McElroy led the Gang Green to the game winning score on the first possession of his NFL career. He didn't put up impressive numbers, finishing the game 5 of 7 for 29 yards, 1 TD, but his arrival reenergized the seemingly lifeless team and put the fans back into the game.
