Trades

Sanchez to Tampa Bay?

Admin - April 12, 2013

Christmas could be coming early this year for Jets fans, as according to ProFootballTalk, the New York Jets are in discussions to trade QB Mark Sanchez to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The first round bust signal caller could be part of the package that would also send CB Darrelle Revis to the Bucs in exchange for multiple draft picks.

Sanchez has a guaranteed base salary of $8.25M for 2013. If the Jets were to cut him, they would have to absorb a $17M salary cap hit. Trading Sanchez would instantly reduce that number to below $10M, as the Bucs would take on Sanchez's entire base salary.

Sanchez regressed last season as he threw 18 interceptions and lost 9 fumbles compared to just 13 TDs thrown. He completed just 54.3% of his pass attempts. He isn\'t a desirable piece for any team given his contract, but would be absorbed by the Bucs as part of the price for the league\'s best cornerback.
