NFL Draft

Jets to target receivers in draft

Admin - February 24, 2014

It appears that the New York Jets are actively looking at various wide receiver prospects at the NFL scouting combine that's currently taking place in Indianapolis. This comes as no surprise, as last year the Gang Green's wide outs were one of the worst in the league.

According to various sources, the Jets have interviews scheduled with the following wide receivers:

Marqise Lee, WR, USC (6'0", 195 lbs) - projected in the 1st round
Lee had a tremendous year in 2012 when he caught 118 passes for 1,721 yards, 14 TDs. His production went down in 2013 - 57 receptions, 791 yards, 4 TDs.

Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson (6'1", 205 lbs) - projected in the 1st round
Watkins is the best receiver in the draft and there's no way the Jets can get him unless they trade up. In 2013 he caught 101 passes for 1,464 yards, 12 TDs.

Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State (6'5", 240 lbs) - projected in the 1st round
He's big with good speed. Last year he caught 54 passes for 1,011 yards, 15 TDs.

Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU (6'0", 187 lbs) - projected in the 1-2 round
Beckham is speedy receiver who caught 59 passes for 1,152 yards, 8 TDs last season.

Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State (5'10", 189 lbs) - projected in the 1-2 round
Cooks is small but very fast with a 4.33 speed. Last season he caught 128 passes for 1,730 yards, 16 TDs.

Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt (6'3", 206 lbs) - projected in the 2nd round
Matthews is a big receiver who's projected to be selected in the second round. Last year he caught 112 passes for 1,477 yards, 7 TDs.

Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU (6'1", 195 lbs) - projected in the 2nd round
He caught 77 passes for 1,193 yards, 10 TDs in 2013.

Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado (6'0", 175 lbs) - projected in the 2-3 round
Richardson is a deep threat who has durability issues. He caught 83 passes for 1,343 yards, 10 TDs in 2013.

Mike Davis, WR, Texas (6'2", 195 lbs) - projected in the 3-4 round
Davis is quick but has questionable hands and route running. (Another Stephen Hill?) In 2013 he caught 51 passes for 727 yards, 8 TDs.

Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana (6'2", 215 lbs) - projected in the 5th round
He had 72 receptions for 1,096 yards, 9 TDs in 2013.

Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg recently stated that he places a lot of emphasis who can beat the bump and run. if that's the case, then the 6'5" Benjamin might be the perfect prospect for the Gang Green.
