The New York Jets signed WR Laveranues Coles, who already played for the Jets in 2000-2002 and 2005-2008, to a 1-year deal. Coles, 32, was drafted by the Gang Green in the 3rd round of the 2000 NFL Draft and had a career year in 2002 when he caught 89 passes for 1,264 yards. Last season Coles had only 43 receptions (his lowest output since rookie season) for 514 yards, 5 TDs.
Having lost all faith in QB Kellen Clemens' ability to be a solid backup to QB Mark Sanchez, the New York Jets signed QB Mark Brunell, a 39-year veteran who spent his best years with the Jaguars and the Redskins. Last two seasons Brunell served as Drew Brees' backup with the Saints where he won the Super Bowl last year.

According to ESPN, the New York Jets have contacted WR Terrell Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and have debated the idea of bringing the high-profile wide receiver to training camp. A deal between the Jets and Owens still is considered a long shot; one person estimated the Jets' chances at signing Owens at "20 percent."

According to various sources, LB Jason Taylor has agreed in principle to sign a contract with the New York Jets, the team he so often bad mouthed in the past. ESPN's Adam Schefter writes it's a 2-year deal worth $13.75M, but the second year is irrelevant. So, it's really a 1-year, $3.75M contract.

According to various sources, LB Jason Taylor's agent, Gary Wichard, has stated that his client won't make a decision about whether or not to join the New York Jets until mid-week at the earliest. Earlier today LB/DE Jason Taylor was given a tour of the Jets facility and introduced to some of his potential teammates. LB Calvin Pace and DE Shaun Ellis both expressed their desire to see Taylor as in green and white. "I think it’s be good for us," Pace said. "It's always good to add another body to the mix. He joined Seattle in 2006 as an undrafted free agent and became their special teams captain. According to CSNNE.com, Patriots LB Adalius Thomas would be interested in playing for Rex Ryan. LB Bart Scott said on ESPN radio that he was hanging with Thomas during the Pro Bowl weekend and Thomas "made it public that he's expressed interest in joining [Ryan]. I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting."

The New York Jets have signed KR/CB Justin Miller to replace injured RB Leon Washington on kickoff returns. Miller, 25, was drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He spent the first three years of his career with the Gang Green before being waived on November 11, 2008 and replaced by CB Ty Law. Justin Miller returned three kickoff for touchdowns during his career in New York and then added two more in 2008 for the Oakland Raiders. Miller went to the Pro Bowl in 2006 when he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and averaged 28.3 yards per return.

The New York Jets have signed recently released CB Marquice Cole to practice squad and released TE Jack Simmons from practice squad. Cole was released earlier this week to make room for DE Shaun Ellis who was suspended for Week 1. Simmons had plenty of chances to make the team but drops in preseason games basically sealed his fate. He was released on the final roster cutdown day and then signed to practice squad.

The New York Jets filled an obvious void today, as they signed TE Ben Hartsock to back up TE Dustin Keller. Hartsock, 6'4", 264 lbs, is a 6-year veteran who has played for Indianapolis, Tennessee and Atlanta. He has started in 26 games in his career (56 games total) and caught 27 passes for 273 yards. Hartsock was released yesterday by the Falcons and the Jets were among at least 6 teams interested in his services. He signed a 1-year deal worth $1.275M and will be used primarily as a blocker. The Gang Green waived P Glenn Pakulak to fit Hartsock on their 75-man roster.

Contrary to various reports that the Jets might be interested in troubled CB Adam "Pacman" Jones, the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have no desire to deal with the 25-year old cornerback who's had various legal issues throughout his career. Besides Jones' unpredictable behavior, signing him would make little sense as the Gang Green are pretty much set at cornerback where they have Darrelle Revis and recently acquired Lito Sheppard as their starters.
