Two days after naming the new GM and hiring Marty Mornhinweg to lead the offense, the Jets brought in former Bills QB coach David Lee to coach the Gang Green's quarterbacks. Lee was also a quarterbacks coach in Miami under recently fired Tony Sparano. The Jets are replacing Matt Cavanaugh, who has been with the team since 2009, the only QB coach QB Mark Sanchez had since being drafted. This is quite an interesting hire, considering that QB Tim Tebow is supposed to be on his way out and Lee is known as one of the pioneers of the Wildcat offense.
It took almost three weeks but the search for general manager is finally over, as the New York Jets picked former Seattle Seahawks VP of football administration John Idzik to replace Mike Tannenbaum as GM. This is a somewhat questionable move by the Gang Green, as they selected yet another executive, pretty much a Tannenbaum clone, instead of going for a football personnel guy.

It's no secret that the New York Jets have become a soap opera over the last few seasons. And if you would've happened to have checked the dial on Tuesday afternoon, you might have noticed that the Jets now compete for ratings against the likes of The Bold and the Beautiful, Days Of Our Lives, and The Young and the Restless.

The New York Jets finally did what everyone had pretty much expected them to do, as they fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano after just one year on the job. Sparano was brought in to replace Brian Schottenheimer but it didn't take long for everyone to realize that the Sparano experiment was a failure. Sparano, whose offense ranked 30th in the league, never found a way to use QB Tim Tebow whom the Jets supposedly acquired to run the wildcat.

We've known this for a few days but now it's official - the New York Jets have fired GM Mike Tannenbaum earlier today and will immediately start looking for his replacement. Head coach Rex Ryan will stay, according to Jets' owner Woody Johnson. Ryan has two years and approximately $6M remaining on his contract.

According to a CBS Sports report, the New York Jets will most likely fire GM Mike Tannenbaum on Monday right after the season finale against the Buffalo Bills. Tannenbaum, who joined the Jets in 1997 as director of player contract negotiations, was promoted to general manager in 2006, replacing Terry Bradway who has remained with the team as a senior personnel executive. The Gang Green have reached the playoffs in only three of seven Tannenbaum's seasons as GM.

The New York Jets announced that they have hired Tony Sparano as their new offensive coordinator to replace Brian Schottenheimer who left the Gang Green last night. Sparano, who previously served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins, was instrumental in turning a 1-15 Dolphins into an 11-5 team in just one year. His next three seasons weren't as successful though as Miami failed to make the playoffs eventually leading to Sparano's dismissal.

Jets fans received excellent news late Tuesday night, as the New York Jets announced that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will not return to the team for the 2012 season. According to team sources, the Gang Green have had former Dolphins coach Tony Sparano as their top choice to replace Schottenheimer in the event of a vacancy. The Jets are expected to announce Sparano's hiring Wednesday.

According to ESPN.com, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer declined the chance to interview for the Buffalo head coaching job this week or after the season. Schottenheimer has remarked throughout the season how much he enjoys working with new Jets head coach Rex Ryan, rookie QB Mark Sanchez, and how truly content he is with his current job as the offensive coordinator of the league's top-ranked running attack.

According to ESPN, San Francisco 49ers president Jed York is dropping the team's tampering charge against the New York Jets over WR Michael Crabtree. The 49ers filed tampering charges with the NFL regarding their negotiations with 1st round draft pick Crabtree. Deion Sanders, a former All Pro cornerback, said he knew two teams that were willing to pay Crabtree what he wanted while he was holding out from the Niners. The 49ers investigated and filed the charge against the Jets.

The NFL has issued a total of $125,000 in fines against the New York Jets and former coach Eric Mangini for the team's failure to list QB Brett Favre's arm problem on injury reports last season.

It now appears that former Jets' QB Brett Favre was advised to continue to play by the Jets despite a torn biceps in his throwing shoulder last season. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum confirmed this morning that the team knew about Favre's condition and did not put him on the injury report, which is a clear violation of the league rules. In the past, teams have been fined anywhere between $10K to $25K for not reporting all injuries, but the amount of the fine depends on the violation, and could exceed that range. No team has ever lost a draft pick for violating the injury report guidelines.

The New York Jets introduced Rex Ryan as their new head coach this morning. Ryan, Baltimore’s defensive coordinator the last four seasons, announced that the team also hired Baltimore Ravens linebackers coach Mike Pettine as their new defensive coordinator, which means that, finally, Bob Sutton is gone.

According to various sources, Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan will become the next head coach of the New York Jets. Ryan will receive a four-year contract that is in line with other first-year head coaches that have been recently hired, but a Jets source said it was almost identical to the $11.5M deal that the Rams gave New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on Saturday.

According to various reports, Baltimore's defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is the favorite to become the next head coach of the New York Jets. If Ryan lands the job, he will keep the current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Cards assistant head coach Russ Grimm remain the leading candidates among the eight who interviewed for the position.
Former Jets head coach Eric Mangini didn't remain unemployed for too long, as according to various news reports, he has been hired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Bill Cowher has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Jets' head-coaching vacany, the New York Jets announced tonight.

Contradicting the previous report, WFAN radio has just reported that the Jets have not spoken with Bill Cowher yet and Cowher has not made any demands regarding his control over the team. The Gang Green are also going to meet with Marty Schottenheimer and Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

According to ESPN.com, former Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher will not interview for the Jets head coaching position. Although he is interested in the Jets job, Cowher told the team he would not be a candidate because he would like to bring in his own personnel director. Jets owner Woody Johnson, however, plans to keep Mike Tannenbaum as his general manager.
It did not take long for Woody Johnson and Co. to make the right decision and fire Eric Mangini whose third season with the New York Jets ended with an epic collapse and failure to make the playoffs. The Gang Green was 8-3 after 11 games this season but followed their early success with an inexplicable slide down the stretch, as they lost 4 out of the last 5 games.
In just four weeks Eric Mangini’s Jets went from a Super Bowl contender to a lousy team that most likely won’t even make the playoffs. Following their rout of then undefeated Tennessee, the New York Jets were thrashed by the Denver Broncos, outplayed by the 49ers (4-9 at that time), barely beat the Buffalo Bills and finally yesterday lost to the Seattle Seahawks (3-11). The Gang Green had one of the easiest schedules in the NFL, they spent over $100M on free agents in the offseason, they have seven Pro Bowlers on their roster – what else does a team need to be a contender in this league? Head coach with a brain!
