How do you think we should address the QB position?

9 years later.. still searching for a plan and Culter and Rivers are still being talked about as unrealistic options.

Got inspired by the D-Brick thread to go back and look, so many great ones but this one stood out

 

I was not ready to give up on Chad around the time this thread was made.

 

Best thing about some of these old threads is seeing how wrong some people were. Now I wouldn't ordinarily point it out but when they tell others they have no clue I think the bumping is deserved.

 

Draft a QB every year til we find a good one.

 

Get some DNA from Joe Willie, Drew Brees and/or Peyton Manning and clone one. Teach him to love the Jets from birth, so that the Jets would be the only team for which he'd want to play. At least we'd be pretty sure of getting a great one in 21 years!

 

I think we look for a QB next year.

We all know what the options are this year and none of them are all that good.

Trade down this year, fill some holes, add speed and talent to this squad now.

Next year we trade up and find our QB of the future if we can't get him in free agency (or trade).

Geno Smith. He will be much improved in year 3 with a better OC and improved talent around him.

 

I'm not trading up for any QB in this draft. Continue to acquire talent, develop talent - if you don't get a QB this year - next year would be a great opportunity. I am not panicking if we don't get a QB this draft.

BTW this thread - didn't post here at the time, but I wanted to stay with Chad.

Interesting that our choices pretty much sucked in 2006 as well. Getting a franchise QB is part luck and part putting that QB in the right system to develop his skills properly. I think we have a better environment for a QB to come into now, but is the right pick going to be available for us?

No one even considered getting the soon-to-be Free agent Drew Brees?

Yeah that sucked but at least we didn't bring him in for a physical and then choose Daunte Culpepper instead

 

It was considered. I think Brees knows we don't have the OLine he needs to be successful here. Rivers is a country boy and wants to head south. The FO did their due diligence and Fitz evidently was the best they could come up with for now. Looks like Geno one more time. Hopefully they'll hit on a QB this draft if not the next draft.

 

Did we have the cap space to sign Brees?

 

Depending on what Mac would have offered, I don't think we could have signed both Brees AND Revis/Cromartie.

 

They are talking about 9 years ago when he was coming off his shoulder problems and leaving San Diego. The "possible" Brees trade this offseason is another topic.
