Werblin Leaves

May 21, 1968
Jet partners Don Lillis, Leon Hess, Townsend Martin and Phil Iselin bought out Sonny Werblin and Lillis assumed the presidency.

Another Leadership Change

August 6, 1968
On July 23 Don Lillis passed away, leaving the Jets without a president. Shortly afterwards, Philip Iselin was appointed president and Mrs. Helen Springborn, Lillis' daughter, joined the board of directors.

Jets Win Home Opener

October 5, 1968
Jets come home after three road games and defeat San Diego 23-20 on Boozer's last minute touchdown. An AFL record crowd of 63,786 sat in.

Heidi Game

November 17, 1968
"Heidi" became a part of the nation's sporting vocabulary when the last 1:05 of key Jet-Oakland game was cut off the air by NBC to permit the children's special to begin on time. Raiders scored twice in last 42 seconds to win, 43-32. Jets took 32-29 lead at 1:05

AFL Champions

Jets defeat Oakland 27-23 for their first AFL title before 62,627 at Shea. Joe Namath passes for three TD (two to Don Maynard, one to Pete Lammons).
