Winner Named To Succeed Ewbank

Charley Winner, former head coach of St. Louis, is named to succeed Weeb Ewbank as head coach of the Jets starting with the 1974 season. Winner serves as an assistant coach under Ewbank for 1973.

Jets Evicted from Home

October 21, 1973
Due to World Series games, the Jets were forced to play their first six games on the road including moving the Pittsburgh game to Three Rivers Stadium. This left the Jets with only six games for the home fans.

Ewbank's Last Game

December 16, 1973
Weeb Ewbank's last game after 11 years as Jets head coach, but Buffalo's O.J. Simpson provided the fireworks as the Jets finished out at 4-10. Simpson broke the NFL season rushing mark with a 200-yard afternoon and wound up with 2003 for the year.
