Namath Named to Hall of Fame
January 29, 1985
Joe Namath, who was MVP as the Jets became the first AFL team to win the Super Bowl in 1968, became the teamÕs first player elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Namath, the Jets all-time leading passer, also became the first Jet to have his number retired to go with this honor.
Namath Honored
October 14, 1985
In an emotional halftime ceremony televised nationally on Monday night, Namath comes down from the announcers booth to have his number retired. The Jets also beat Miami 23-7 that night.
Offensive Explosion
November 17, 1985
The Jets scored the most points in club history while trouncing Tampa Bay, 62-28. The team racked up 581 yards offense while Ken O'Brien tossed five TD passes, three of those to Mickey Shuler.
Longest Pass
December 8, 1985
Ken O'Brien throws the longest pass in Jets history a 96-yard TD to Wesley Walker in a 27-7 win at Buffalo.
Five to Pro Bowl
December 18, 1985
The Jets send five players to the Pro Bowl. Freeman McNeil, Joe Klecko, Mark Gastineau and Lance Mehl are voted in and Ken O'Brien, named as an alternate, also goes following an injury to Dan Marino. O'Brien is also named MVP by his teammates.
Playoff Clincher

With a 37-10 victory, the Jets finished 11-5 and clinched their third playoff spot in five years. Ken O'Brien becomes the first Jet QB to lead the NFL in passer rating.
Wild Card Playoff
December 28, 1985
Turnovers are the story as the Jets commit four costly ones while dropping a 26-14 decision to the eventual AFC champions, New England. The Patriots score the backbreaking TD in the third quarter on the return of a fumbled kickoff. Ken O'Brien suffers a concussion and Pat Ryan comes on to play the second half.
