The New York Jets selected DE Vernon Gholston from the Ohio State University. Gholston, 21, had an excellent junior year, recoding 14 sacks in 12 starts. He's 6'4", 265lbs and runs 40 yards in 4.5 seconds. He's a Shawne Merriman type player who can play OLB in the 3-4 scheme.

According to the Pro Football Weekly Draft Preview, Gholston "does not know how good he can be and may have more upside than any player in the draft." He will be expected to contribute from week 1, as the Jets' pass-rush was among the worst in the league last season.
