In a rather expected move, the New York Jets signed QB David Garrard to create at least some competition for the starting QB job. Garrard, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2010 is expected to provide some competition to QB Mark Sanchez, who hasn't really been challenged since his rookie season. Garrard spent last preseason with the Miami Dolphins and nearly won their starting job before a freak knee injury off the field sidelined him for the rest of the year.

Special teams and defense scored as well, as the Jets utterly destroyed the Buffalo Bills, 48-28, setting a new season opener scoring record.

OT Wayne Hunter, who struggled immensely in the first two preseason games, has been demoted from his starting role. He will be used as the sixth offensive lineman, coming in for jumbo packages, a role he previously succeeded in for the Jets. Rex Ryan said the Jets would give third-year player OT Austin Howard the chance to earn the job in the third preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
