LB David Harris was named AFC Defensive Player of Week 9. Last Sunday he registered five tackles, one interception and one pass defensed in the Jets’ 27-11 win at Buffalo. Harris registered his second interception of the season and the fourth of his career when he picked off QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the second quarter at the Jets’ 49-yard line. In his fifth season from Michigan, this is Harris’ second career Defensive Player of the Week Award. Harris previously won the award in 2009 (Week 1). He joins CB Antonio Cromartie (Week 2) and CB Darrelle Revis (Week 6) as the third Jet to win Defensive Player of the Week this season.

Recently signed WR Plaxico Burress injured his ankle while working out independetly and will not practice this afternoon. He will most likely miss the next few days as well. The injury is not related to the chronic ankle problems that Burress had while playing for the New York Giants. WR Jerricho Cotchery, on the other hand, is very close to coming back after being put on PUP list. Although Cotchery's days with the Jets could be numbered, as the team is expected to sign veteran WR Derrick Mason.
The Gang Green will look to rebound this Sunday on the road against the Detroit Lions (2-5). The team is pretty much healthy, as they have only four players on their final injury report. CB Darrelle Revis, LB David Harris, S Brodney Pool and LB Calvin Pace are all listed as probable and will suit up on Sunday. Harris missed practice on Wednesday after injuring his back while lifting weights earlier in the week. Pool was limited yesterday after colliding with Revis.

The New York Jets are hosting their first free agents this offseason - S Brodney Pool (Browns) and CB Marlin Jackson (Colts). The Jets, who have recently gotten rid of S Kerry Rhodes, CB Donald Strickland and CB Lito Sheppard, lack depth in their secondary and we should expect more free agent defensive backs in Florham Park in the coming days.
