The New York Jets have placed RB Leon Washington on the injured reserve list, which means that he's out for the remainder of the 2009 season. Washington suffered a compound fracture of his right tibia and fibula on his first and only carry in yesterday's game against the Oakland Raiders. Following the game, Washington underwent a 2-hour emergency surgery where a rod was placed in his tibia to stabilize the fracture. The fibula will heal on its own and the surgery was successful. He will remain in Oakland under doctors’ observation and he may return to New York as soon as Wednesday.

Head coach Rex Ryan has indicated that the Jets will try to simplify the offensive system for rookie QB Mark Sanchez who threw 5 interceptions in the loss against the Buffalo Bills. After winning the Rookie of the Week award in each of the first three weeks of regular season, Sanchez first threw 3 interceptions in Week 4 against the Saints and then followed with the total disaster last Sunday. He now leads the league with 10 interceptions.

Earlier today the New York Jets signed RB/WR Danny Woodhead to the 53-man roster and basically confirmed that both WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Brad Smith would not play tomorrow against the Buffalo Bills. The Gang Green also released DT Howard Green to make room for Woodhead.
It's now almost a certainty that WR Jerricho Cotchery will miss Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills with a hamstring injury. Cotchery sat out his second day of practice in a row this morning. WR Brad Smith (quad) also did not practice for the second straight day and is doubtful to play on Sunday. WR David Clowney was getting reps with the first team along with WR Braylon Edwards. TE Dustin Keller was lining up wide in three receiver sets.

Fan favorite RB Danny Woodhead lasted only one day on the Jets' active roster, as the Gang Green waived him along with RB Brandon Renkart, P Reggie Hodges and OT Mike Kracalik to make room for four new additions they acquired on Sunday. The Jets signed P A.J. Trapasso Sunday off waivers after he was cut by the Titans. The other additions were FB Jason Davis (Bears) and TE Matthew Mulligan (Titans) and QB Kevin O'Connell (traded from the Lions for an undisclosed draft pick ).

The New York Jets defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the final preseason game of the year, 38-27. The starters played only one series and while the offense impressed with a touchdown drive, the defense clearly struggled as they gave up six points. QB Mark Sanchez was a perfect 5 of 5 for 67 yards and a touchdown to WR Jerricho Cotchery. Keep in mind though that this was against a "vanilla" defense, which wasn't as aggressive as if this was a regular season game.

RB Danny Woodhead is reportedly getting the majority of the snaps with the first team during voluntary workouts at the New York Jets training facility. Woodhead, 24, went undrafted in 2008 but was signed by the Gang Green later as an undrafted free agent. The team then waived him before the start of the season.
