According to various source, the Jets are going to release WR David Clowney and WR Patrick Turner to make room for WR Santonio Holmes and DT Howard Green. Holmes, who was suspended for the first four games of regular season, is expected to make the evolving Jets passing game even more dangerous. He's a proven deep threat and basically impossible to cover in the slot. Green, who was released last week to make room for DE Trevor Pryce, will be re-signed.

One day after releasing FB Tony Richardson, the New York Jets brought the 16-year veteran back. The Jets needed three roster spots Sunday after acquiring three players on waivers, so they cut Richardson, WR David Clowney and RB Chauncey Washington.

The New York Jets released FB Tony Richardson and WR David Clowney. The Richardson move is definitely quite a surprise, as the 16-year veteran is one of the vocal leaders on this team. It's possible the team could bring back Richardson after Week 1, when his veteran minimum salary of $855,000 would not be guaranteed.

The New York Jets signed WR Laveranues Coles, who already played for the Jets in 2000-2002 and 2005-2008, to a 1-year deal. Coles, 32, was drafted by the Gang Green in the 3rd round of the 2000 NFL Draft and had a career year in 2002 when he caught 89 passes for 1,264 yards. Last season Coles had only 43 receptions (his lowest output since rookie season) for 514 yards, 5 TDs.

WR Santonio Holmes, who was traded to the New York Jets on Sunday from the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be suspended for the first 4 games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The Gang Green acquired the troubled receiver from the Steelers for a 5th round draft pick in the upcoming draft. ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the trade, which Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly confirmed on Monday at the team's camp in Cortland, NY.

The trio, along with WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), DE Shaun Ellis (knee, ankle), LB Bart Scott (knee), WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) and OT Damien Woody (foot) all saw limited action in the practice session. Rex Ryan said Sheppard is in the questionable to doubtful range.

The Gang Green got back on track yesterday, as they shut out the Oakland Raiders in Oakland, 38-0. For the second week in a row the Jets ran for over 300 yards, becoming the first team to accomplish that in 35 years. Rookie RB Shonn Greene, who replaced injured RB Leon Washington, ran for 144 yards on 19 carries, 2 TDs and should be a candidate for the Offensive Rookie of the Week. RB Thomas Jones added 121 yards on 26 carries, 1 TD. QB Mark Sanchez rebounded after his awful performance last week against the Bills. He did not put up Peyton Manning-like numbers, but played a mistake free game, finishing 9 of 15 for 143 yards, 1 TD. Sanchez also scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Both WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Brad Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders due to hamstring and quadriceps injuries respectively. While Cotchery will most likely be ready for the Dolphins next week, Brad Smith could be out next week as well, according to head coach Rex Ryan. WR David Clowney will make his second start in a row, replacing Cotchery in the starting lineup. CB Lito Sheppard, who returned last week after missing the previous three games and reaggravated his quadriceps injury, will not play on Sunday as well.

Head coach Rex Ryan has indicated that the Jets will try to simplify the offensive system for rookie QB Mark Sanchez who threw 5 interceptions in the loss against the Buffalo Bills. After winning the Rookie of the Week award in each of the first three weeks of regular season, Sanchez first threw 3 interceptions in Week 4 against the Saints and then followed with the total disaster last Sunday. He now leads the league with 10 interceptions.

Earlier today the New York Jets signed RB/WR Danny Woodhead to the 53-man roster and basically confirmed that both WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Brad Smith would not play tomorrow against the Buffalo Bills. The Gang Green also released DT Howard Green to make room for Woodhead.
It's now almost a certainty that WR Jerricho Cotchery will miss Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills with a hamstring injury. Cotchery sat out his second day of practice in a row this morning. WR Brad Smith (quad) also did not practice for the second straight day and is doubtful to play on Sunday. WR David Clowney was getting reps with the first team along with WR Braylon Edwards. TE Dustin Keller was lining up wide in three receiver sets.
WR Jerricho Cotchery sat out this morning's practice session with a hamstring injury. He was listed as "questionable" for the game against Miami but did play and caught one pass for 4 yards. This time, however, it looks more like Cotchery will not suit up against the Bills.

If last week in New Orleans it was QB Mark Sanchez' time to get back to earth, last night in Miami it was the heralded Jets' defense that lost the game for the Gang Green. The unit that many thought was among the league's elite got totally embarrassed by Miami's wildcat offense and 2nd year quarterback Chad Henne whom, as Rex Ryan put it after the game, the Jets' defense "made look like Dan Marino."
The New York Jets took a 13-10 lead right before halftime as PK Jay Feely converted his 22nd field goal attempt in a row. Recently acquired WR Braylon Edwards scored the only Jet's touchdown - a 3-yard pass from QB Mark Sanchez.

The New York Jets defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the final preseason game of the year, 38-27. The starters played only one series and while the offense impressed with a touchdown drive, the defense clearly struggled as they gave up six points. QB Mark Sanchez was a perfect 5 of 5 for 67 yards and a touchdown to WR Jerricho Cotchery. Keep in mind though that this was against a "vanilla" defense, which wasn't as aggressive as if this was a regular season game.

Head coach Rex Ryan got his first win last night against the New York Giants, as the Jets came from behind to defeat their cross-town rivals, 27-25. This was also the first game that QB Mark Sanchez played since being officially named the Jets' starting quarterback, and he played well. Sanchez looked better than in the first two games, as he showed plenty of poise, good decision making, ability to make tough throws and improvise on the fly. Sanchez went 13 of 20 for 149 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT.
All eyes will be on QB Mark Sanchez tonight as he'll make his first start since being officially named the Jets' starting quarterback. Cross-town rivals, the New York Giants, will represent a formidable test for Sanchez, who struggled against the Ravens' starting defense on Monday. The Giants will be coming off a 17-3 loss to the Chicago Bears and will be obviously looking for some kind of redemption.
Rookie RB Shonn Greene will miss the upcoming game against the New York Giants and possibly the final preseason game against the Eagles as well. Greene suffered a rib injury in the game against the Ravens where he carried the ball twice for a total of 5 yards and also caught a 15-yard pass. Green had also gotten banged up on several occasions during training camp, so the question might be asked whether the rookie can stay healthy at all... So, don't expect RB Thomas Jones to get traded anytime soon.

Despite QB Mark Sanchez' shaky performance on Monday against the Baltimore Ravens, it looks like head coach Rex Ryan is leaning towards naming him the starter. He's expected to start against the Giants on Saturday and play into the third quarter.

Both QB Mark Sanchez and QB Kellen Clemens threw interceptions in the first half against the Baltimore Ravens. First, Sanchez found himself under pressure and forced a quick pass that was picked off and returned for a touchdown. Sanchez struggled for the most part of the first half, but did step up on his final drive, as he connected with RB Leon Washington for a 19-yard touchdown pass. Washington was outstanding in the first half - 48 yards on 8 carries, 35 yards on 2 receptions, 1TD.
The battle for the starting quarterback position will reach its peak tomorrow when the Jets take on head coach Rex Ryan's former team, the Baltimore Ravens. Ryan spent the past 10 years with the Ravens, including last year as the team’s assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.

DE Shaun Ellis has been suspended without pay for the season opener and fined $100,000 by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. So, the Gang Green will be missing two starters due to suspensions when the season begins on September 13th. LB Calvin Pace will be serving a 4-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. DE Mike DeVito and LB Vernon Gholston are expected to replace Ellis and Pace in the starting lineup.

The Rex Ryan era officially began last night when the New York Jets took on the Saint Louis Rams in the first preseason game of 2009. Despite losing the game 23-20, the Gang Green played well and showed us plenty to look forward to both on defense and offense. The defense looked much more aggressive than in recent years, utilizing various blitzes and schemes that were unleashed from the get go.

What an entrance by QB Mark Sanchez! On his first ever play in the NFL the high prized Jets' rookie connected on a 48-yard pass with WR David Clowney. Sanchez followed with a couple of nice completions to TE Dustin Keller and the Jets took an early 10-3 lead on a Thomas Jones' TD run.
Two former defensive coordinators will make their head coaching debuts tomorrow as Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo returns to Giants Stadium to face Rex Ryan's New York Jets. Rookie QB Mark Sanchez is also expected to make his much anticipated NFL debut. So, let's take a look at some of the upcoming position battles as well as just what players Jets' fans should be looking at closely...

The New York Jets didn't waste any time to claim former Vikings WR Aundrae Allison off waivers this afternoon. Allison, 25, is a 2-year veteran who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
All eyes were on Brett Favre this afternoon at Hofstra when the Gang Green took the field with the recently acquired future Hall of Fame quarterback. The bleachers were completely packed - fans even had to wait in line to get in. They sure weren't disappointed, as Favre took more reps than all the other quarterbacks combined.
