QB David Garrad's tenure with the New York Jets turned out to be a short one, as the quarterback reportedly called it quits today citing a knee injury. "Having to call it quits," Garrard wrote in a text to NFL.com's Adam Schein. "My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices." The team hasn't made an official announcement yet, but Garrard indicated to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington that it will come soon enough.
So, it finally happened, the New York Jets released QB Tim Tebow on Monday morning. The move has been expected since the end of last season, but the selection of QB Geno Smith in the second round of this year's Draft pretty much forced the issue.

In a rather expected move, the New York Jets signed QB David Garrard to create at least some competition for the starting QB job. Garrard, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2010 is expected to provide some competition to QB Mark Sanchez, who hasn't really been challenged since his rookie season. Garrard spent last preseason with the Miami Dolphins and nearly won their starting job before a freak knee injury off the field sidelined him for the rest of the year.

According to various sources, the New York Jets might sign QB David Garrard to create some competition for struggling QB Mark Sanchez. Garrard, 35, has 76 career starts but hasn't played since 2010. A longtime starter with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Garrard was released before the 2011 season and then opted to have a surgery to prepare for the 2012 season. In 2012 he signed a 1-year deal with the Miami Dolphins but was once again released before the start of regular season.
Today was another quiet day for the New York Jets, as one of the two players who were expected to visit them, S Brandon Merriweather, signed with the Washington Redskins and never made it to Florham Park. The other player was QB Drew Stanton, who did make it to the Jets training facility but did not receive an offer. He will have another meeting with the Jets tomorrow.
