The New York Jets traded their conditional draft pick for OT Jeff Otah of the Carolina Panthers. After showing lots of promise at right tackle in his first two seasons, Otah has dealt with a series of injuries and has appeared in only four games the last two years.
Despite some gaudy statistics in 2011, the defense was not as dominant as it had been the previous two seasons. Highlighting this was the 95 yard drive led by Tim Tebow to end the week 11 matchup against the Broncos or the 99 yard Touchdown given up to the Victor Cruz and the Giants. Many times during the season you would likely see Eric Smith desperately chasing an opposing Tight End or receiver down the field.
The Gang Green addressed another need in Round 3, as they selected OLB Demario Davis from Arkansas State at #77 overall. Davis, 6'2", 235 lbs, is a fast linebacker who ran 40 yards in 4.53 seconds at the scouting combine. He recorded 229 tackles (129 solo) in his NCAA career and had 10 tackles for loss and 3 sacks in 2011.
