The New York Jets signed LB Lance Laury, a special teams ace who has spent his entire career with the Seattle Seahawks. He joined Seattle in 2006 as an undrafted free agent and became their special teams captain. The 6'2", 237 lbs special teams standout recorded 21 tackles (15 solo) last season and forced one fumble while playing in every game.
The New York Jets placed special teams ace LB Larry Izzo on injured reserve, ending his season and probably career as well. The 14-year veteran, one of Mike Westhoff's favorites, was in his first season with the Jets after spending 8 seasons with New England and 5 with Miami. He recorded 7 tackles for the Gang Green this season and forced one fumble.

S Jim Leonhard returned to practice this morning after missing yesterday's session with a knee injury. CB Lito Sheppard (quad) and CB Donald Strickland (ankle), however, did not suit up at all. It's becoming more and more obvious that neither is going to play this Sunday against the Saints. CB Corey Ivy, a former Raven, was brought in for a tryout last week and will most likely be signed before Sunday's game. LB Larry Izzo and OL Wayne Hunter, both of whom missed yesterday's session as well, returned to practice this morning.

LB Jason Trusnik was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for games played the third week of the 2009 season (September 27-28). This is Trusnik’s first career Player of the Week Award. In the first quarter, he forced a fumble when he knocked the ball loose from Titans KR Ryan Mouton and recovered the ball at the Titans 19-yard line. The Jets scored five plays later to take a 14-0 lead. Through Week 3, Trusnik is tied for a team-high six tackles on special teams. The last Jet to win AFC Special Teams Player of the Week was RB/KR Leon Washington in 2008 (Week 11).
