The New York Jets are hosting their first free agents this offseason - S Brodney Pool (Browns) and CB Marlin Jackson (Colts). The Jets, who have recently gotten rid of S Kerry Rhodes, CB Donald Strickland and CB Lito Sheppard, lack depth in their secondary and we should expect more free agent defensive backs in Florham Park in the coming days.
The New York Jets have traded their 2011 3rd round draft pick that could turn into a 2nd round pick to San Diego for CB Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie has one year left on his contract and there are no plans for his deal to be redone now.
According to ESPN.com, the New York Jets released CB Lito Sheppard, who was signed as a free agent before the last season. Sheppard was due a $10M roster bonus, so this move was pretty much expected, considering that Sheppard had a subpar season at best.

According to ESPN.com, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer declined the chance to interview for the Buffalo head coaching job this week or after the season. Schottenheimer has remarked throughout the season how much he enjoys working with new Jets head coach Rex Ryan, rookie QB Mark Sanchez, and how truly content he is with his current job as the offensive coordinator of the league's top-ranked running attack.

CB Darrelle Revis finished second in The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting with 14 votes. CB Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers won the award with 28 votes. Despite shutting down elite wide receivers all season long, Revis just did not put up the stats impressive enough to challenge Woodson for the award. Revis finished regular season with 6 interceptions and 1 touchdown. Woodson, on the other hand, recorded 9 interceptions, 3 touchdowns and 4 forced fumbles.

QB Mark Sanchez practiced again with the first team this morning. He looked fine, showing no signs of the injury that sidelined him last week against Tampa Bay. Head coach Rex Ryan once again did not name Sanchez as the starter for Sunday's game against Atlanta but said that he was optimistic about the rookie's chances to return to the lineup.

According to ESPN, San Francisco 49ers president Jed York is dropping the team's tampering charge against the New York Jets over WR Michael Crabtree. The 49ers filed tampering charges with the NFL regarding their negotiations with 1st round draft pick Crabtree. Deion Sanders, a former All Pro cornerback, said he knew two teams that were willing to pay Crabtree what he wanted while he was holding out from the Niners. The 49ers investigated and filed the charge against the Jets.
CB Lito Sheppard will not start on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars despite being able to fully participate in all practice sessions this week. Head coach Rex Ryan said that "Even though he’s practiced fully, I don’t think Lito’s all the way back yet. We’ll evaluate and see how much he plays. I think we’ll start Dwight Lowery." So, CB Dwight Lowery, who has started in 4 games this season, will start again against Jacksonville.

The New York Jets have declared CB Ahmad Carroll, WR Brad Smith, QB Erik Ainge, QB Kevin O'Connell, CB Lito Sheppard, LB Marques Murrell, CB Marquice Cole, OG Matthew Slauson inactive for Week 8. Erik Ainge will be #3 emergency quarterback.
All Jets players practiced for the second consecutive day this morning, although WR David Clowney (ankle), WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), DE Shaun Ellis (knee, ankle), LB Bart Scott (knee), CB Lito Sheppard (quadriceps), WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) were limited. All are expected to play on Sunday against Miami with the exception of Sheppard, who will most likely be a game-time decision.

WR David Clowney (ankle), CB Lito Sheppard (quadriceps) and OG Brandon Moore (foot) all returned to practice this morning after missing yesterday's session. The trio, along with WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), DE Shaun Ellis (knee, ankle), LB Bart Scott (knee), WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) and OT Damien Woody (foot) all saw limited action in the practice session. Rex Ryan said Sheppard is in the questionable to doubtful range.
WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) and CB Lito Sheppard (quadriceps) will all miss Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders. CB Donald Strickland (ankle) and OT Damien Woody (knee, foot) are both listed as "questionable" and expected to play. Strickland will finally see action after missing the previous four games due to an ankle injury.
Both WR Jerricho Cotchery and WR Brad Smith, who missed Sunday's game against the Bills, returned to practice this morning. Cotchery was out with a hamstring injury, while Smith missed last game due to a quadriceps injury. CB Lito Sheppard, however, did not practice. Sheppard was back in action on Sunday after missing three previous games. He started but could not finish the game, as he seemed to have reaggravated his quadriceps injury.
Both WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) and WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) have not practiced this week and are listed as "doubtful" for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills. It's pretty safe to assume that neither is going to play on Sunday. Although head coach Rex Ryan has stated that the availability of both receivers will be a game-time decision. OT Damien Woody (foot), another player who has not practiced this week, is listed as "questionable" but expected to play. DE Shaun Ellis (knee) is also listed as "questionable." He did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday and was limited this morning. CB Donald Strickland is also "questionable", he missed the last three games but is expected to suit up on Sunday.
WR Jerricho Cotchery sat out this morning's practice session with a hamstring injury. He was listed as "questionable" for the game against Miami but did play and caught one pass for 4 yards. This time, however, it looks more like Cotchery will not suit up against the Bills.
With 4 days left until the Monday Night game against the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets have 8 players on their injured report. Both OT Damien Woody (foot) and CB Donald Strickland (ankle) did not participate in today's practice, which usually means that their game day status will be either "out" or "doubtful." Strickland will most likely miss the MNF game, while Woody is expected to play. WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring), S Kerry Rhodes (knee) and CB Lito Sheppard (quadriceps) all saw limited action this morning - usually means "questionable" status on game day. LB Larry Izzo (hamstring), S Jim Leonhard (knee) and LB Bryan Thomas (wrist) fully participated in the practice session and will most likely be listed as "probable."

The newest Jets' acquisition, WR Braylon Edwards, practiced with the Gang Green for the first time this morning. He wore a white #17 jersey and caught passes from rookie QB Mark Sanchez, as well as backups QB Erik Ainge and QB Kevin O'Connell. Edwards is expected to start opposite WR Jerricho Cotchery on Monday Night against the Miami Dolphins.

Injured CB Lito Sheppard practiced for the first time in two weeks this morning. He has missed the last two games with a quadriceps injury. CB Donald Strickland, who has also missed the last two games with an ankle injury, did not practice. OT Damien Woody did not practice either and his availability for the Monday Night game is a question mark. He suffered an ankle injury against the Saints. Another player who got injured on Sunday, rookie RB Shonn Greene, participated in the practice session as well.

The New York Jets have declared the following players inactive for today's game against the New Orleans Saints: CB Lito Sheppard, CB Donald Strickland, QB Kevin O'Connell, LB Ryan Fowler, OG Matt Slauson, DE Ropati Pitoitua, DT Howard Green and QB Erik Ainge. Ainge is also #3 emergency QB.
As it's been reported earlier both CB Lito Sheppard (quadricep) and CB Donald Strickland (ankle) are going to miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. They were also out last week against the Titans. CB Dwight Lowery will start in place of Sheppard, while CB Drew Coleman will play nickel.

Head coach Rex Ryan has announced that both CB Lito Sheppard and CB Donald Strickland are going to miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. Both players got injured two weeks ago against the Patriots. Sheppard has a quadriceps injury, while Strickland is out with a high ankle sprain.

S Jim Leonhard returned to practice this morning after missing yesterday's session with a knee injury. CB Lito Sheppard (quad) and CB Donald Strickland (ankle), however, did not suit up at all. It's becoming more and more obvious that neither is going to play this Sunday against the Saints. CB Corey Ivy, a former Raven, was brought in for a tryout last week and will most likely be signed before Sunday's game. LB Larry Izzo and OL Wayne Hunter, both of whom missed yesterday's session as well, returned to practice this morning.
As we reported earlier today, CB Lito Sheppard (quad), CB Donald Strickland (ankle) and S Jim Leonhard (knee) did not practice this morning. Now it appears that both CB Darrelle Revis (hamstring) and S Kerry Rhodes (knee) were added to the injury report as well and limited in practice this morning. So, basically the entire Jets' secondary is now on the injury report (4 starters and the nickel back).

LB Jason Trusnik was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for games played the third week of the 2009 season (September 27-28). This is Trusnik’s first career Player of the Week Award. In the first quarter, he forced a fumble when he knocked the ball loose from Titans KR Ryan Mouton and recovered the ball at the Titans 19-yard line. The Jets scored five plays later to take a 14-0 lead. Through Week 3, Trusnik is tied for a team-high six tackles on special teams. The last Jet to win AFC Special Teams Player of the Week was RB/KR Leon Washington in 2008 (Week 11).

It's now official that both CB LIto Sheppard and CB Donald Strickland will not play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. CB Dwight Lowery will start in place of Sheppard, while CB Drew Coleman will replace Strickland at nickel.
The New York Jets injury report keeps filling up, as the team now has 14 players on the list. Both CB Lito Sheppard and CB Donald Strickland did not practice again this morning. Neither player has practiced this week at all. Strickland has been basically ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, while it looks like the availability of Sheppard will be a game time decision. Even if Sheppard plays, it's doubtful that he'll be able to start and play on most downs. CB Dwight Lowery, who started 10 games in his rookie season last year, would start and CB Drew Coleman would play the nickel.

LB Keith Bulluck of the Tennessee Titans apparently took some lessons on trash talking from Jets players and guaranteed a victory against the Jets on Sunday. "We're definitely getting back after it," Bulluck told reporters. "We’re going against a rookie quarterback. We plan on showing him a bunch of different looks and to take what Kerry Rhodes said last week, we want to knock their quarterback around. We're not a team that’s desperate. We’re a team that knows how to win. And we’re a team that plans on going to New York this week and getting a win, our first win."

As a clear indication that availability of CB Lito Sheppard and CB Donald Strickland for Sunday's game against the Titans is a question mark, the New York Jets activated CB Marquice Cole from the practice squad and waived TE Matthew Mulligan from the 53-man roster. Both Sheppard and Strickland suffered inuries in the game against the Patriots. Lito Sheppard had a strained quad, while Strickland tweaked his right ankle. Their statuses for Sunday's game are uncertain at this time.

"I think so. Who do we have to beat?" was Rex Ryan's answer on ESPN 1050 when asked if the New York Jets were an elite team. The Jets are 2-0 after beating the New England Patriots on Sunday and suddenly on the radar of all media "experts", most of whom predicted the Gang Green to finish last in AFC East. Ryan did not stop there, however, as he added that the Jets won the Super Bowl in his dad's first year as a coach in New York, and so maybe the Gang Green just needed a Ryan on their coaching staff to return to Super Bowl glory.
CB Darrelle Revis, who shut down WR Andre Johnson and WR Randy Moss in consecutive weeks, is among Sunday's five most valuable players on Yahoo Sports. "He’s in my top three corners in the NFL", said former All Pro Deion Sanders, and added that "all who are listening and watching please take the Jets seriously."
Tonight the New York Jets will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the final preseason game of the season. The starters are expected to play just one series, leaving plenty of time for the players battling for the remaining roster spots. As head coach Rex Ryan said the other day, there are still about half dozen roster spots up for grabs, and tonight's game is basically the final chance for backups to claim them.

Not much has changed since the morning practice, as the Jets' offense continued to struggle in the afternoon session as well. QB Kellen Clemens opened 11-on-11 drills with a pass to WR Chansi Stuckey, which was picked off by CB Lito Sheppard. Clemens followed with three more passes to Stuckey, but completed only one of them.
The New York Jets stayed busy in free agency, trading for CB Lito Sheppard from the Philadelphia Eagles. According to the NFL Network, the Gang Green will send a 5th round choice in the upcoming draft and conditional 2010 draft choice for the former Pro Bowler. The level of the 2010 choice will be determined by a number of factors including Sheppard's 2009 playing time.
