It took a few days but the New York Jets have finally signed a free agent early Friday. Former Raiders RB Mike Goodson signed a 3-year deal worth $6.9M with the Gang Green to possibly replace departed RB Shonn Greene as the Jets' starting running back. Goodson, a former 4th round pick of the Carolina Panthers, was traded to the Oakland Raiders last offseason and ran for 6.3 yards a carry on 35 attempts last year. He started in 3 games in 2010 for the Panthers, replacing injured DeAngelo Williams.

RB Shonn Greene, who spent his entire 4-year career with the New York Jets, has reportedly agreed to a 3-year $10M contract with the Tennessee Titans. The Jets drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2009 draft but he never really became a legitimate number one back to replace RB Thomas Jones. Greene rushed for 1,054 and 1,063 yards the last two seasons but hardly any showed any playmaking ability, averaging just 4.2 yards per carry over the course of his NFL career.

WR Santonio Holmes will stay with the Gang Green after agreeing to restructure his contract. He signed a $50M deal with the team back in July of 2011 with $24 million guaranteed. Holmes was slated to make $7.5M guaranteed in the upcoming season, but there was an offset language in the deal. Even if the Jets had cut him, Holmes would not be able to "double dip" and earn a contract from both the Jets and whatever team picked him up. The terms of his new deal have not been announced.
