One of the worst head coaching tenures in Jets history is finally over. The Jets have informed Todd Bowles that he will not be back in 2019, just a few hours after another embarrassing loss to the Patriots, 38-3. GM Mike Maccagnan, however, will remain with the team and be involved in the search for Bowles' replacement.
After a grand total of four games in his professional career, Sam Darnold is getting not so rave reviews from the armchair quarterbacks and even a few of those who should know better. The shop talk is that the Jets should have stayed put at No. 6 instead of trading up to get Darnold at No. 3 which meant that New York could have saved their sixth, 37th, and 49th picks in the 2018 draft, plus the Jets’ 2019 second-rounder from going to Indianapolis. The assets that general manager Mike Maccagnan traded to move up three spots is certainly open for debate, particularly because New York is not a team on the precipice of greatness but rather one that’s on the cusp of mediocrity.

The Jets finally made it official yesterday, as they named Chan Gailey as their offensive coordinator. Gailey, 63, becomes the first hire of the new regime after spending two years out of football. He will replace Marty Mornhinweg, who held the position for two years under Rex Ryan. Mornhinweg's unit finished 28th in scoring and 22nd in yards in 2014.

The wait is finally over. According to ESPN, the New York Jets will hire Todd Bowles to be their next head coach. Bowles, 51, played 8 seasons in the NFL. He was defensive backs coach for the Jets in 2000 before taking the same position with the Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins and Eagles. He became defensive coordinator with the Eagles in 2012 and then served in that role for the Cardinals. Bowles will receive a 4-year contract worth around $4M per year.

According to various sources, the New York Jets are expected to hire Mike Maccagnan as their new general manager. Maccagnan, who's now a scouting director with the Houston Texans, is viewed as a very good talent evaluator, something previous GM John Idzik wasn't considered when the Gang Green hired him two years ago. Maccagnan, however, has no experience with salary cap management and contract negotiations.
