Coles, 32, was drafted by the Gang Green in the 3rd round of the 2000 NFL Draft and had a career year in 2002 when he caught 89 passes for 1,264 yards. Last season Coles had only 43 receptions (his lowest output since rookie season) for 514 yards, 5 TDs.

Ellis has a broken hand but is expected to play against the Colts. Richardson has a rib injury and was held out for precautionary reasons. He should be ready for Sunday as well. RB Thomas Jones also sat out this practice session, just like in the previous few weeks.

Some things in life never change. The sky is blue, the grass is green, and the Jets find ways to make children (and sometimes grown men) cry. Well it seems that one of those three things is changing as you read. Only time will tell whether this is for real or if it’s a façade like an Indian Summer.

Mark Sanchez' remarkable rookie NFL campaign hit a big bump yesterday in New Orleans, as the Jets' rookie committed four costly turnovers, which resulted in 14 points for the home team. The Gang Green lost, 10-24, ending undefeated streaks for both Sanchez and head coach Rex Ryan, who lost his first game as an NFL head coach.

The New York Jets defeated the Tennessee Titans, 24-17, and improved to 3-0, marking their best start since 2004 when the Gang Green began the season 5-0. Unlike in the previous two games, however, there were quite a few alarming signs that definitely should be addressed this week in preparation for the New Orleans Saints. While the Jets were clear winners against Houston and New England, let's be honest and admit that yesterday's game could have easily gone either way.

Both teams will be wearing their original AFL franchise uniforms of 1960. Tennessee leads regular season series between the teams, 21-16-1. Interestingly, the Titans of New York (the original name of the Jets) never beat the Houston Oilers (the original name of the Titans) - they lost all 6 games to the Oilers in 1960-1962.

The first week of the 2009 NFL season is over and the early betting lines for Week 2 are out. The New England Patriots are favored over the New York Jets by 5 points in what is going to be the first real test of Rex Ryan's team. Both teams won in Week 1, which means the winner of this contest will take the lead in AFC East. NT Kris Jenkins has already stated that the Gang Green are "going to be playing this game like it's the Super Bowl." Head coach Rex Ryan, meanwhile, stated that the Pats have the advantage at quarterback and head coach, but it remains to be seen who has the better team. Rex also challenged Jets fans to show up at the Meadowlands and do their part.

"I think so. Who do we have to beat?" was Rex Ryan's answer on ESPN 1050 when asked if the New York Jets were an elite team. The Jets are 2-0 after beating the New England Patriots on Sunday and suddenly on the radar of all media "experts", most of whom predicted the Gang Green to finish last in AFC East. Ryan did not stop there, however, as he added that the Jets won the Super Bowl in his dad's first year as a coach in New York, and so maybe the Gang Green just needed a Ryan on their coaching staff to return to Super Bowl glory.

CB Darrelle Revis, who shut down WR Andre Johnson and WR Randy Moss in consecutive weeks, is among Sunday's five most valuable players on Yahoo Sports. "He’s in my top three corners in the NFL", said former All Pro Deion Sanders, and added that "all who are listening and watching please take the Jets seriously."

Rex Ryan's heralded defense and rookie QB Mark Sanchez both made their debuts yesterday against the Houston Texans and both passed the first test. The new aggressive defense was able to completely shut down the Texans' offense that was ranked 3rd in the league last season. Mark Sanchez, meanwhile, did not play like a rookie at all. The 22-year old kid from USC showed great pocket awareness and composure. He was especially effective on third downs, and his ability to buy time with his feet is another thing that we haven't seen from a Jets quarterback in quite some time.

The Texans, however, finished 8-8 in both of the last two seasons and are projected to finally have a breakthrough season with a possible playoff berth. The Jets go into the game as 5-point underdogs, as they will face a formidable opponent who has won their last 3 home games and is 12-4 in home games over the last two seasons. Last season the Texans were ranked 3rd in total offense (4th in passing, 4th in rushing).

With less than 48 hours left until the season opener, the Jets currently have 6 players on their injured list. DE Mike DeVito is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. He's been limited in practice the last two days. QB Kellen Clemens (elbow), RB Shonn Greene (ribs), LB Bryan Thomas (ankle), WR Wallace Wright (knee) are all listed as probable and have fully participated in practice sessions this week. TE Dustin Keller was added to the injury list with a toe problem, but practiced and should be ready to go on Sunday. Also, if you follow Keller's updates on twitter (or the feed we have on this website), he is going to the Yankee game tonight (if the rain stops) along with QB Mark Sanchez and S Kerry Rhodes. So, apparently his toe is not bothering him that much.

The Gang Green are 4.5 to 5 point underdogs, facing a team that's expected to make the playoffs for the first time in their history. Ryan is one of nine rookie head coaches this season. Mark Sanchez will become the first Jets rookie quarterback to start since Matt Robinson started on November 13, 1977 against the Seattle Seahawks. The New York Jets have gone 491 consecutive games without starting a rookie quarterback, the longest current streak in the NFL. Robinson started just one game in 1977 - a 20-23 loss to the Steelers where he went 7 of 19 for 80 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT.
