Before the 2011 Jets ride off into the sunset, with their oversized hero Coach Ryan vaulted high on their shoulder — the same coach who will ironically claim to carry the team’s future on his own shoulders —allow me to speak for all of the wounded he has left on the field.

Buddy Ryan, by all accounts, was a man of action more than a man of words. This is illustrated best when you look at his military service. At the age of 18, Buddy was given a field promotion to Master Sergeant in the US Army’s 45th Infantry during the height of the Korean War. If stories can be believed, he spent much of that time punching his own soldiers in their peach fuzz-covered faces when their courage faltered and they became a danger to the soldiers with whom they shared foxholes. They were putting Buddy’s men in harm’s way, and he was finding any way he could to get them to keep fighting.

This was another must win, although the Jets would not have made the playoffs anyway if they had won, but for the third straight week the Gang Green simply forgot to show up, losing to Miami, 19-17. As the final seconds of the Jets' disappointing season were ticking off the clock, WR Santonio Holmes was sitting on the bench after being taken out of the game by the Jets' coaching staff. This was a fitting end to this disastrous season that started with Super Bowl promises and ended with a 3-game losing streak and reported locker room turmoil afterwards.

In what was another game of high hopes and expectations, another must win, the New York Jets laid yet another egg, getting thoroughly embarrassed by the Philadelphia Eagles, 45-19. Just like in Week 3, or just like in Week 9, when the Gang Green had to win to make a statement and take over the first place in the division, they just came out flat and got totally outclassed. This time the division lead wasn't on the line, as the Jets had lost any realistic hope for the division title a while ago, but the Gang Green could have solidified their Wild Card claims with a win in Philly, but it just wasn't to be.

QB Mark Sanchez threw a couple of touchdown passes and ran for another two, as the New York Jets easily cruised past the Kansas City Chiefs, 37-10. It was the Gang Green's third win in a row but it might have come with a rather high price tag. S Jim Leonhard reportedly has a torn ligament in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. On the positive side, besides the win, the Jets now control their own playoff destiny, as Cincinnati, Oakland and Tennessee all lost today.

RB Shonn Greene's three touchdown runs and QB Mark Sanchez's 4th quarter touchdown pass to WR Santonio Holmes propelled the Jets past the Washington Redskins and one step closer to making the playoffs. It wasn't pretty though as the game was rather even throughout the first three quarters. The Jets took the lead in the final quarter on a 30-yard TD pass from Sanchez to Holmes. Then, three plays later, LB Aaron Maybin sacked the quarterback forcing a fumble that was recovered on Washington's 9-yard line. Two plays later Greene scored his second touchdown of the game, sealing the deal.

Rookie NT Kenrick Ellis will start in place of injured DT Mike DeVito who will miss Sunday's game due to a knee injury he suffered last week against the Buffalo Bills. Rookie WR Jeremy Kerley will be back in action returning punts and playing in the slot receiver position. RB LaDainian Tomlinson will be back as well and could also see his role expanded. OL Vlad Ducasse (knee), who was limited in Wednesday and Thursday practice sessions, was a full participant in this morning's session and is listed as "probable."

QB Mark Sanchez threw a career-high four touchdown passes, including the winning score to WR Santonio Holmes, as he overcame his second quarter interception and led the Gang Green to a 28-24 comeback win against the Buffalo Bills. Sanchez might have been erratic at times, throwing into double and triple coverage, but when the game was on the line, he pulled himself together and orchestrated a 12-play game-winning drive that went for 77 yards. This was surely a morale booster for the Jets' signal caller that hopefully will help the Gang Green turn this season around, as they pretty much have to win all of their remaining games.

RB LaDainian Tomlinson and WR Jeremy Kerley both missed an entire week of practice and are listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Buffalo Bills. Although Rex Ryan stated that he considered listing Tomlinson as "doubtful", as it looks rather unlikely that he will play tomorrow. Kerley will be a game-time decision. Tomlinson suffered his injury late in the Patriots game. He did not make the trip to Denver for last week's game.

Well, this game looked like a sure win on paper, but in a typical "same old Jets" fashion the Gang Green imploded losing for the second time in five days and putting their playoff hopes in serious doubt. Just five days ago everyone was talking about taking over the AFC East and having a home playoff game. Now, the question is whether this Jets team makes the playoffs at all or it's time to rebuild again.

This was another must win for the Gang Green and they delivered again, overcoming an 11-point deficit and rediscovering their running game en route to a 27-21 win against the San Diego Chargers. WR Plaxico Burress also rediscovered his touchdown catching abilities, scoring three times for the second time in his career. RB Shonn Greene finally ran for over 100 yards and the defense finally looked like it should have all season.

DE Mike DeVito will be a game-time decision tomorrow after he suffered a knee injury in Thursday practice session. DeVito is listed as "questionable" on the final injury report along with C Nick Mangold, who limited in Friday's session. The Gang Green have two players listed as "out" - WR Logan Payne (wrist) and CB Isaiah Trufant (hamstring). Payne, who missed every game this season, was finally placed on the injured reserve and replaced by DT Martin Tevaseu on the 53-man roster.

Not many teams throw at CB Darrelle Revis, but the Miami Dolphins were stupid enough last night to do so on quite a few occasions. They paid the price, as Revis intercepted two passes and returned one of them 100 yards for a touchdown that turned out to be the game winner. Revis' pick six was crucial as it turned a potential 10-0 in favor of Miami into a 7-3 Jets' lead. It also completely changed the momentum in the first quarter when it seemed like the Dolphins were completely dominating the game on both sides of the football.

For the second week in a row C Nick Mangold is listed as "questionable" on the final injury report. This time, however, Rex Ryan said that Mangold's questionable status is just a formality and he's expected to suit up against the New England Patriots. LB Calvin Pace was limited in practice but is listed as "probable" and expected to play as well.

As it was expected, C Nick Mangold will miss Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders due to the ankle injury he suffered against the Jaguars. WR Logan Payne (wrist) and OL Rob Turner (ankle) are out as well. Undrafted rookie C Colin Baxter will start in place of Mangold.

The New York Jets' defense came out on a mission this afternoon, after a shaky performance last week against the Cowboys, as they intercepted four passes and limited Jacksonville to just 203 total yards (112 rushing and 91 passing). The Gang Green crushed the Jaguars, 32-3, but lost All-Pro C Nick Mangold who suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter. Mangold is scheduled to have an MRI tomorrow, but it looks like he will miss a few weeks. Rookie OL Colin Baxter replaced Mangold and performed pretty well.

MLB David Harris, WR Santonio Holmes and S Eric Smith were all limited in practice this week but are expected to play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harris, who's been nursing a toe injury all week, dressed for practice today and went through individual drills, but as soon as the team portion of practice began, he headed off to the side to work with the strength and conditioning staff. Holmes and Smith both participated in practice during the portion open to the media.

The New York Jets opened preseason in Houston last night, losing to the Texans, 20-16. The first team offense was on the field for only two series, while the starting defense played for the entire first quarter. QB Mark Sanchez, who did not have WR Plaxico Burress to throw to, completed 6 of 7 passes for 43 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT. WR Santonio Holmes caught both passes thrown to him for a total of 17 yards. Recently signed WR Derrick Mason seemed to have already blended into the offense - 3 receptions for 21 yards. RB Shonn Greene had 5 carries for 32 yards, including a 19-yard run.

After a couple of days of deliberating between the Jets, Titans and Ravens, WR Derrick Mason chose to sign with the Gang Green. Mason, 37, who hasn't missed a game since 2002, will join WR Santonio Holmes and WR Plaxico Burress as the team's top 3 wide receivers. He was cut last week by the Ravens who wanted him back at a reduced price, but Mason decided to join Rex Ryan whom he knows since their days in Baltimore.
After a couple of rather hectic weeks of free agency, the Jets find themselves in a bit of trouble at one position where they were among the strongest in the NFL last season - wide receiver. Only one member of last season's "Flight Boys" is still with the Jets, Santonio Holmes. The other two, Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery, are gone and replaced with big question marks or not replaced at all.

The New York Jets conducted their first open practice session on Tuesday, drawing a crowd of almost 3,000 people. Because of the post lockout rules the players did not have pads on, while all recent free agent signings did not participate in the drills at all. This meant that both starting wide receivers, WR Santonio Holmes and WR Plaxico Burress, were out. Burress spent quite some time talking to Tom Moore, who was recently signed as a consultant. Holmes, on the other hand, seemed pretty bored most of the time. WR Jerricho Cotchery did not suit up either, as he's still recovering from last season't injury.

Free agent WR Braylon Edwards will not serve any jail time for violating his probation. Edwards could have been sentenced to up to six month in jail, but instead he will serve 100 hours of community service and receive one year of active probation. Braylon has to report once a month, on the phone or in person and talk to a probation officer.

Earlier today we reported that the Jets made an offer to OT Damien Woody to come back for at least one more season. Hunter, 30, started at right tackle in the playoffs after Woody went down with an injury and performed admirably.

According to various sources, the New York Jets might be interested in adding WR Randy Moss to their wide receiving corps when the lockout is lifted. WR Braylon Edwards and WR Santonio Holmes will both be unrestricted free agents if the 2010 free agency rules aren’t reinstated, and although the Jets have stated that they would want to keep them both, it might not be financially possible.

According to various sources, the New York Jets placed highest-level tenders (1st and 3rd rounders) on WR Santonio Holmes and CB Antonio Cromartie. While the moves temporarily secure the players' rights, it's unclear what their status will be under a new CBA. The current CBA expires Thursday night. If unrestricted free agency reverts to four years if and when a new CBA is reached, these tenders would be moot. But with the agreement set to expire, and no new labor deal yet in place, teams have to cover their bases.

According to a report on ESPN.com, the New York Jets will most likely use their franchise tag on MLB David Harris whose contract expires at the end of this season. The linebacker franchise tag number last season was $9.6M, but Harris would obviously like a long-term deal. If franchise tags are allowed -- and the NFLPA plans to battle that -- the Jets will restrict the 27-year-old Harris but will allow starters WR Santonio Holmes and WR Braylon Edwards to test the free-agent market.

OT Damien Woody, who had arthroscopic knee surgery in December and missed the last three games of regular season, has been placed on injured reserve. Woody suffered an Achilles injury and will undergo surgery Wednesday afternoon, according to head coach Rex Ryan. OT Wayne Hunter started in place of Woody and did a pretty good job. He's also expected to start on Sunday against the Patriots.

According to various source, the Jets are going to release WR David Clowney and WR Patrick Turner to make room for WR Santonio Holmes and DT Howard Green. Holmes, who was suspended for the first four games of regular season, is expected to make the evolving Jets passing game even more dangerous. He's a proven deep threat and basically impossible to cover in the slot. Green, who was released last week to make room for DE Trevor Pryce, will be re-signed.
The New York Jets trimmed their roster down to 53 players, as they released 21 players to meet the league's roster size requirement. Here are the cuts: FB Jason Davis, WR Larry Taylor, C Robby Felix, S Keith Fitzhugh, LB Tim Knicky, LB Brashton Satele, S Emanuel Cook, DT Ty Steinkuhler, DT Martin Tevaseu, LB Boris Lee, OL Chet Teofilo, DE Jason Lamb, LB Ricky Foley, T Michael Turkovich, WR Brooks Foster, OL Charlie Tanner, CB Bo Smith, LB Cory Reamer, OL Dan Gay, LB Josh Mauga, S Donovan Warren.

Coles, 32, was drafted by the Gang Green in the 3rd round of the 2000 NFL Draft and had a career year in 2002 when he caught 89 passes for 1,264 yards. WR Santonio Holmes, who was traded to the New York Jets on Sunday from the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be suspended for the first 4 games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The Gang Green acquired the troubled receiver from the Steelers for a 5th round draft pick in the upcoming draft. ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the trade, which Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly confirmed on Monday at the team's camp in Cortland, NY.
The New York Jets acquired WR Santonio Holmes from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night for a fifth-round draft in the 2010 NFL Draft. Holmes, the 2009 Super Bowl MVP, caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards, 5 TDs last season. He has 235 career catches for 3,835 yards and 20 touchdowns, but also brings his share of off-field issues, which could explain why the Jets only had to give up their 5th round pick for him.
