Fan’s letter to Terry Bradway

Admin - October 6, 2003

Well, last week we had a fan sending his Wayne Chrebet jersey to the Jest headquarters. This week TheGangGreen.com has received a fan's letter to Jets GM Terry Bradway:

Dear Mr. Bradway,

I sincerely hope you read this letter because I not only took 3 hours of my time yesterday to watch OUR team but I am also taking time out of my busy schedule today to write this to you... simply for my love of OUR team. You at least owe it to the fans of the team you run to read the letters they write... I am sure you get a lot of them... but you do make a lot of money to run this team.

As a Jets fan for the last 20 years I have seen my ups and downs but I must say I always felt that our team had a vision and was always at least trying to build a competitive team. I was appalled to read this week that you weren't totally responsible for putting this pathetic product on the field, which people are paying hard earned money to watch. You are the General Manager and oversee all personnel moves that are made on OUR team and so I blame you for bringing back Vinny Testaverde as our backup QB and losing 15 of our 22 starters from 2 years ago.

Vinny is still a QB that can move a team downfield but he was never a fit in our offensive system and is the exact opposite QB than Pennington as far as pure throwing. When Pennington went down I knew we could not be competitive... how come none of the Jets Management had the foresight to realize that and bring someone in who fit our system a little better so we could at least be competitive?

I know you have to give it 3 or 4 years to truly evaluate an NFL draft, but I must tell you Mr. Bradway, the preliminary evaluations are not good on your drafts so far with the Jets. You have failed to draft one starter so far and to fill voids left by free agents you were unable to resign. The players we have used to replace players we have lost have been a step below as far as talent goes... in every case! Conway for Coles, Johnson for Morton, Sowell for Anderson... the departures of Ryan Young and Randy Thomas have made our once solid offensive line... like swiss cheese... lots of holes.

As a devoted Jets fan for the last 20 years and a person who is on the list to be a season ticket holder I truly hope you are starting to evaluate the young talent on OUR team and devising a plan for this coming off season so we can at least be competitive next year. It is apparent to me that you and your staff need all of the help you can get as far as player evaluation goes so here are my thoughts:

Curtis Martin, Mo Lewis, Marvin Jones and Vinny Testaverde play key positions on OUR team and they are getting too old to play them. Sign a Free Agent QB who throws the ball with touch like Pennington and who knows to throw the ball 10 yards when we need 10 yards for a first down... throughout his career Vinny has always thrown that ball 9 yards... that\'s why he has always been a mediocre QB. With the #1 pick in the draft next year you should start looking at game breaking WR's... we need someone to stretch the field and who is taller than 5'9"... kind of like Laveranues Coles.</p

I really feel bad for Herm and his staff because you have truly not given them players who can form a competitive team this year. As soon as Chad went down opposing defenses put the ball in Vinny's hands by putting 7 men in the box and stopping Curtis. The defense has a lot of pressure on them because they probably feel like they need to pitch a shutout every game because our offense can't put together more than one good drive a game resulting in a TD.

I truly hope you took time to read this Mr. Bradway, and please remember, as GM this team has your stamp of approval on it... so please don't shy away from your responsibility.

Sincerely,

Keith Hochberg
