Jets Player Release

Goodbye, Vinny!

Admin - June 1, 2004

The New York released QB Vinny Testaverde, ending the veteran's 6-year gig with the Gang Green. Testaverde, 40, joined the Jets in 1998 as a free agent to back up QB Glenn Foley. When Foley went down with an injury, Testaverde replaced him, and led the Jets to the AFC East division title and the AFC Championship game where the Gang Green lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions Denver Broncos.

In 6 seasons with the Jets Testaverde played in 59 games (55 starts), throwing 76 TDs and 52 INTs. He also scored one rushing touchdown in 1998.

The Jets will save $1.25M on the 2004 salary cap since Testaverde will count $3.5M against it instead of $4.75M. The team will then take the final $4M hit of Testaverde's salary on the 2005 cap.

Farewell, Vinny!
