Jets draft picks WR Brad Smith and RB Leon Washington both made big plays, as the Gang Green came out victorious against the Washington Redskins, 27-14.
The Jets got on the board in the second quarter when WR Brad Smith scored on a 61-yard reverse run. Washington tied the game five minutes later, but the Gang Green instantly responded and never looked back. RB Leon Washington returned a kickoff for 87 yards, putting the Jets back on top, 14-7.
The Jets added two field goals and headed in the final quarter leading 20-7.
In the fourth quarter rookie QB Kellen Clemens connected with WR Reggie Newhouse on a 5-yard score, making the score 27-7.
QB Patrick Ramsey took the start for the Jets, as QB Chad Pennington did not make the trip to Washington because of a family illness. Ramsey finished 6 of 9 for 33 yards. QB Brooks Bollinger went 10 of 16 for 69 yards. The ground game was a total opposite of what we saw last week, as the Jets rushed for 216 yards. RB Cedric Houston carried the ball 14 times for 53 yards. RB Derrick Blaylock added 46 yards on 10 carries. RB Leon Washington gained 17 yards on 6 runs and also caught 3 passes for 23 yards.
LB/DE Bryan Thomas registered one sack, 3 tackles and two hits on the quarterback. CB David Barrett and CB Omowale Dada had one interception apiece, as the Jets won the turnover battle 3-0 (DE Dave Ball also recovered a fumble). S Rashad Washington led the team with 5 tackles (4 solo).
Next Friday the Jets will take on their crosstown rivals, the New York Giants. The kickoff time is at 8:00 PM ET.
