Sanchez runs first team offense this morning

Admin - August 8, 2009

QB Mark Sanchez is running the starting offense this morning, while QB Kellen Clemens is with the second team. It sure looks like the rookie has impressed Jets' coaching stuff enough to push himself into the starting lineup.

It's too early to say whether Sanchez has already become the starter or the coaching stuff just decided to let him get more snaps with the starting offense. The afternoon session scheduled for 4pm this afternoon will surely shed more light on this development.

CB Darrelle Revis once again had an interception this morning, picking off a Sanchez pass intended for WR Brad Smith. Clemens threw an interception as well - his pass for WR David Clowney was picked off by CB Donald Strickland.

UPDATE (12:18pm): Rex Ryan has announced that QB Kellen Clemens will start vs. the Rams on August 14. It appears that claims by some other sites that Sanchez is already the starter turned out to be.... wishful thinking? As I stated before, making Sanchez the starter at this point would be a rush decision, which would totally destroy Clemens' confidence (if he still has any to begin with). The battle between Sanchez and Clemens will go on and, as Rex Ryan said about a week ago, the winner should emerge before preseason game #3 vs. the New York Giants.
