Jets Regular Season

Jets defense dominates first half against Houston

Admin - September 13, 2009

The Jets defense looked exactly the way it had been advertised in the first half against the Houston Texans. Bart Scott and Co. completely dominated the 3rd best offense, limiting them to just 104 yards and 5 first downs. Constant pressure, gang tackling and aggressive playcalling seemed to catch the Texans off guard, as their offensive stars were almost completely shut down in the first half. All Pro WR Andre Johnson was limited to just one catch for 7 yards.

QB Mark Sanchez showed great poise and decision making in the first half, going 11 of 20 for 154 yards, 1 TD. Although he got lucky on a couple of occasions when his poor throws should have been picked off, Sanchez overall really impressed. The running game, on the other hand, looked almost nonexistent. The Gang Green gained only 41 yards on the ground, averaging 2.7 yards per carry. All Pro RB Thomas Jones, who led the AFC in rushing last season, rushed for only 1 yard on 5 carries.

LB Vernon Gholston who started in place of suspended LB Calvin Pace has two tackles so far and has looked pretty decent.
