Jets Regular Season

Jets want simpler offense for Sanchez

Admin - October 22, 2009

Head coach Rex Ryan has indicated that the Jets will try to simplify the offensive system for rookie QB Mark Sanchez who threw 5 interceptions in the loss against the Buffalo Bills. After winning the Rookie of the Week award in each of the first three weeks of regular season, Sanchez first threw 3 interceptions in Week 4 against the Saints and then followed with the total disaster last Sunday. He now leads the league with 10 interceptions.

Both WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) and WR Brad Smith (quadriceps) are unlikely to play on Sunday against the Raiders. WR Braylon Edwards and WR David Clowney worked with the first team on Thursday and will almost certainly start this weekend. Edwards caught only 3 passes for 40 yards and Clowney didn't catch a single pass last week against the Bills. WR Danny Woodhead seems to be getting more work, with both Cotchery and Smith banged up, and he could see action against the Raiders.
