Jets acquire Santonio Holmes

Admin - April 12, 2010

The New York Jets acquired WR Santonio Holmes from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night for a fifth-round draft in the 2010 NFL Draft. Holmes, the 2009 Super Bowl MVP, caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards, 5 TDs last season. He has 235 career catches for 3,835 yards and 20 touchdowns, but also brings his share of off-field issues, which could explain why the Jets only had to give up their 5th round pick for him.

Holmes is facing a 4-game suspension under the league's substance abuse policy. He was also accused of throwing a glass at a woman in a night club last month. In 2008, Holmes was arrested for possession of marijuana and was involved in a domestic violence incident in 2006; the misdemeanor charges were dismissed.

Holmes is yet another player with off field troubles who's been brought in under the Rex Ryan regime. Last season the Jets traded for WR Braylon Edwards who was facing assault charges in Cleveland, and earlier in this offseason the Gang Green acquired CB Antonio Cromartie (father of 7 children) from San Diego.

Following this trade, the New York Jets now have 5 selections in this month's draft:

Round PIck (Overall)
1 29 (29)
2 29 (61)
4 26 (124) from Cardinals
6 29 (198)
7 29 (236)
