Jets Off-field

Tomlinson thinks he can start, Sanchez starts running

RB LaDainian Tomlinson, who was signed this offseason and thought to be veteran insurance behind second-year player RB Shonn Greene, told ESPN Radio in Dallas he's prepared to compete for the starting job. "They didn't put a label on me at all. They didn't say 'You know what? You're going to be a backup.' They said, 'No, you're going to prove what you can do on the football field,' and that's all I can ask."

Tomlinson's new Jets jersey reportedly was the sixth-best seller in the NFL last month.

Meanwhile, QB Mark Sanchez took an encouraging step in his comeback from left knee surgery yesterday, running on a treadmill for the first time since the February operation. Although Sanchez said that he still hopes to take part in the Jets' June 14-16 minicamp, the Jets expect him to miss all voluntary summer workouts and be ready only for training camp in August.
