Jets re-sign long snapper Purdum, Barnes next?

Admin - March 18, 2013

The New York Jets re-signed LS Tanner Purdum, who was a non-tendered restricted free agent, to a 2-year contract. Purdum has been a steady long snapper since 2010. The Jets opted not to place the low tender ($1.32 million) on him with the hope of re-signing him at a lower price. Purdum will be the second long snapper on the Jets roster heading into training camp. LS Travis Tripucka, a Mountain Lakes High grad and former St. Louis Rams practice squad member, is also currently on the roster.

In other news, LB Antwan Barnes, who visited the Jets last week, said on Twitter that he was signing with the Gang Green. The Jets would be Barnes' fourth team in seven years. He has 23.5 career sacks, including 11 in 2011 for the Chargers. Last year he had just 3 sacks in 11 games.
