Power rankings: Jets fall out of top 20 again

Admin - December 18, 2013

After suffering their eighth loss of the season and being eliminated from playoff contention, the New York Jets dropped out of the top 20 again in all the latest power rankings. ESPN had them at #22, which is only one spot lower than a week ago. CBS Sports and CNN SI had them also at #22, down from #20 and #19 respectively. ProFootballTalk gave the Jets their highest ranking - #21. They had them at #19 last week. Finally, Brian Billick of FOX Sports put Geno Smith and Co. at #23, which is two spots lower than last week.

The Gang Green might jump back into the top 20 next week, as they will be hosting the Cleveland Browns (4-10). The Browns have lost five games in a row and seem like a perfect opponent for the Jets to get back on the winning path. Although SportsBettingOnline.ag has Rex Ryan's team favored by only 2.5 points, which is a clear indication that the odds makers don't have too much faith in the Gang Green's offense.

Here's what all these websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: Sunday was Geno Smith's ninth game with a Total QBR under 35 this season, most in the league. Does he still take snaps for Gang Green next year?

FOX Sports: Geno Smith's 21 interceptions isn't even the worst for a New York quarterback this season.

CBS Sports: They've been eliminated from playoff contention. What does that mean for Rex Ryan?

ProFootballTalk: Unlike the Panthers, the Jets don’t have a weak link. They have several.

CNN SI: The Jets haven't been the same since their Week 10 bye, which followed an upset of New Orleans and preceded a 1-4 stretch. Rex Ryan is going to make a terrific defensive coordinator elsewhere next season.
