Jets move up in power rankings despite losing again

Admin - October 15, 2014

The spirited effort that the New York Jets displayed against the heavy favorites Denver Broncos did not go unnoticed, as the Gang Green moved up in the latest editions of power rankings. ESPN and Yahoo Sports both raised the Jets' stock by one point, moving them from #30 to #29 and #27 to #26 respectively. FOX Sports had the Jets at #26 (up from #29 a week ago). CNN SI followed suit, moving Rex Ryan's team up by 3 points as well, from #30 to #27. Pro Football Talk kept the Jets at #25, right where they had them last week as well. Only CBS Sports had the Jets lower than last week, moving them down from #28 to #29.

Here's what the power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: The Jets' five-game losing streak is the team's longest since 2007. They won't have to wait long for another chance to snap it, traveling to Foxborough on Thursday night.

FOX Sports: The Jets fought hard and kept this game a lot closer than people expected thanks to a dominant performance by their defensive line. In the end, secondary woes and a late-game failure to advance the ball on offense proved to be their undoing again.

CBS Sports: At 1-5 heading into the Thursday game with Patriots, the heat is on Rex Ryan. How much longer can he stay with Geno Smith?

ProFootballTalk: In an effort to get fired sooner than later, maybe Rex should drive around the parking lot, dragging the team’s Super Bowl trophies from the bumper of his car.  Oh, wait.

CNN SI: Rex Ryan's press conferences have become borderline must-see events, mainly because Ryan is slowly morphing into a Saturday Night Live-esque caricature of himself. This week alone, he reassured Jets fans that "we're not dead," said he was sick to his stomach that Darrelle Revis played for the Patriots and -- the most outlandish statement of them all -- declared that John Idzik's 2012 draft was "about as good as it gets."

Yahoo Sports: The defense didn't play badly. They got good pressure on Peyton Manning and held that offense to 24 points. Hey, we're trying to keep it positive.
