Power rankings: Jets surge into top 10

Admin - September 22, 2015

It has been quite some time, but following their impressive road win against the Colts, the New York Jets are finally back in top 10 of NFL power rankings. As Todd Bowles' defense dominated against Andrew Luck, most pundits now see the Gang Green as a legitimate playoff contender. ESPN placed the Jets at #9, the highest ranking of this week, which was 12 spots up from last week. FOX Sports, CBS Sports and Yahoo Sports were all in agreement, putting the Jets at #10 (up from #20, #18 and #24 respectively). Only ProFootballTalk had the Jets outside top 10, ranking them at #14, which was still 12 places higher than last week.

Here's what the power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: The 2-0 Jets have scored 31 points off 10 takeaways this season. The Jets scored 20 points off 13 takeaways all of last season.

FOX Sports: New head coach Todd Bowles is working with even more talent than he had in Arizona, and his blitzes have forced 10 turnovers through the first two weeks. New offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is spreading out the defense and getting the ball to his playmakers in space while also mixing in the run game.

CBS Sports: The way their defense is playing, they will be in a lot of games. Todd Bowles has really done a heck of a job with that side of the ball.

ProFootballTalk: If they win it all, does IK Enemkpali get a ring?

Yahoo Sports: I was wrong about the Jets. Couldn't figure out how they'd be a playoff contender with that offense. Turns out it doesn't matter; the defense is just that good.
