Power rankings: Jets stay at #29

Admin - October 14, 2021

The Jets looked pretty ugly in London, as they got demolished by the Atlanta Falcons, 27-20. But despite the setback, the Gang Green pretty much kept their #29 spot in the latest power rankings. Five out of six pundits kept Robert Saleh's team exactly where they had them a week ago, and only NFL.com placed the Jets at #31, above only the Jaguars. The bye week might be exactly what the Jets need to refuel their engines, as they are preparing to face their division rival, the Patriots, on October 24th. The Gang Green lost last 11 games against Bill Belichick's team.

Here's what different power rankings websites had to say about the Jets:

ESPN: The 2020 fifth-round pick, who slipped in the draft because of a significant ankle injury near the end of his final season at Virginia, leads the Jets with five passes defensed. In fact, only eight players in the NFL have more than Hall, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Hall got his feet wet as a starter over the second half of last season, but he still was shaking off rust from the layoff. Now he is 100%, playing the role of CB1 and has a chance to be a long-term starter for the Jets.

Sporting News: The Jets keep showing a little more positives with Zach Wilson and Michael Carter as their rookie offensive centerpieces. But they can't find any consistency and their bad run defense is hard to overcome.

CBS Sports: The offense just isn't good enough right now. They have to get more from Zack Wilson from the pocket.

ProFootballTalk: One step forward, five steps back.

Yahoo Sports: The Jets came out and looked absolutely horrible for a half against a bad Falcons team. The Jets have been outscored 75-13 in the first half this season. Robert Saleh was a popular hire and still might be a great coach, but the Jets consistently looking unprepared to start games is a bad look.

NFL.com: The Jets mysteriously lost their momentum somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean before landing in London, delivering a deeply lackluster performance in a 27-20 loss to the Falcons at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Robert Saleh hits the bye week with more holes to plug than fingers on his two hands: The defense is coming up empty in the game’s most important moments, while rookie quarterback Zach Wilson is back to square one after another shaky showing. Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur need to find ways to get Wilson more comfortable, especially early in games. One idea: Make a point to get highly drafted young playmakers like Elijah Moore and Denzel Mims involved. It shouldn’t be this hard.
