The New York Jets are trading former first round draft pick, DE Jermaine Johnson, to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for DT T'Vondre Sweat. The trade will not be processed until the new league year begins in March.
Johnson, 27, was selected by the Gang Green at #26 overall in the 2022 NFL draft. He had a quiet rookie season, which he followed by a breakout season in 2023 when he recorded career high 7.5 sacks, 16 QB hits and was selected to Pro Bowl. Johnson suffered a season ending injury the following year missing all but two games in 2024. Last year he recorded 3.0 sacks and 6 QB hits.
Sweat, 24, was Tennessee's second round draft pick in 2024. He recorded 1 sack and 4 tackles for loss in his rookie season, finishing 13th in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Last season he had 2.0 sacks and 4 tackles for loss.
This move obviously indicates that the Jets are going to select a pass rusher in the first round of this year's draft. David Bailey from Texas Tech and Arvell Reese from Ohio State are the two standout edge rushers who will be available for the Jets to pick at #2 overall.
