Yeah, and Bulger isn't exactly top tier anymore. Gotta be the Rams. Although they may squeak out a win over there in the west.
Don't give Houston so much credit: they are 0-3. Do I think they will be that bad all season? No, and they have a game in hand with everyone else, but they are winless, and thus in the hunt.
Very good point. If they have Acouple injuries on their DL...and their running game falls apart..and they are another possibility.
Looking at the Lions Scheuddle, they actually got a pretty good shot, if they get by the Texans in two weeks. Houston vs. Detroit puts a real damper on our chances...Houston is the better bet to win another game down the line, so hopefully Andre johnson and Slaton have a field day against Detroit's pathetic defense.
We're down to Detroit and Cincy. Cincy has a really broken will right now and a coach on the hotseat...but they may have too much talent to do the deed. Detroit however...has a defense that's so bad...they may really have a shot.
To tell you the truth I'd be glad to see both teams go 0-16. For Detroit it would be a fitting statement on how bad the GM Matt Millen was over the last few years. His mistakes have been legion (as have his choices of first round WR who bust). And the Ford family deserves some blames as well for not dumping Millen a long time ago. Cincinnati has been running a half-way house for parolees for too long. Marvin Lewis just hasn't stopped the foolishness that's going on there. As a consequence he should be given a pink slip. In fact the whole franchise should be given a pink slip. It is an embarrassment to the NFL (and, really, all pro sports). Going 0-16 would be the icing on the cake.
I lived in England for a while and followed their "football" (soccer) teams. They have a number of leagues that all feed into the top division called the Premiership. It's like MLB with their farm leagues (AAA, AA, etc). The great thing about the English soccer leagues is promotion and relegation. The league memberships are not fixed but are fluid from year to year. At the end of the season the bottom three teams in each division get relegated to the next lower division and the top three teams in the lower division move up. That happens for every level of competition. The English system of promotion and relegation punishes poorly run teams. In fact the incentive to win is high at the end of the season for the bottom teams so they can stay in the top league. Compare that to the American system that rewards clubs who do worse with higher draft picks. There are no consequences for poorly run teams like Detroit or Cincinnati. They just continue to get their share of the huge television contracts and muddle along. I think the English system of promotion and relegation is much better way to ensure good team management and competitive play. Too bad we can't adopt a similar system here . . .
Cincy has to play Jac, Phi, @Pit, Bal, @Ind, Was, @Cle, KC. Those last two games look winnable. Detroit has to play @Chi, Jac, @Car, TB, Tenn, Minn, @Ind, NO, @GB. They are really depending on the 'any given Sunday' slogan. Maybe the NCAA title should be between Texas and the Lions.
