Plus, Gholston missed alot of camp because of the stupid Ohio State stuff running so late.

    I am with you, dude...
    Who cares about Gholston?
    The Jets are winning.
This would matter if the Jets were losing.
In the meantime, well, linebackers often take a lot of time to develop.
    So Gholston is developing.
So who cares how many sacks he has or doesn't have?

How dare he underperform in his first year, at a new postion, in a new defense, in a new league!

Hey, c'mon, I actually saw him in the vicinity of a couple of plays today.

But really, is it too late to split his money between Keller and Lowery ?

A couple more INTs and Lowery might get his pay upped by the league.

And this right here is why I love this board. If you sift through all the negativism thrown about by the darksiders, you can actually find posters who know what they're talking about.

Anyone who expected Gholston to produce impressive numbers this season was just fooling themselves. Granted, I expected a couple sacks, but his production (or lack of as you all put it) is not concerning to me... yet.

We have two very good OLBers in Pace and Thomas, there is no reason for Gholston to be seeing the field as long as these 2 are effective. And for those who say he should be inside with Harris out, why would you put a player who is currently learning a completely new position in a new system into ANOTHER new position? think things through, come on now guys

He is a bust, there is no other word for it. People can keep making all of the stupid excuses they want and it won't change a thing. He will never earn the contract he signed and that makes him a bust, pure and simple. He is not a QB that needs time to adjust, or a WR or even a RB. He is a damn lineman/lb and they either have it or they don't. He don't.

*sigh* this is why collectively the jets fans are some of the worse fans in football easy.

Forget that everyone pretty much figured that he was raw coming out of school, or that former 1st round picks at OLB are playing at a high level in part b/c he was drafted...we will find something to whine about. Lord knows if Gholston were playing well I would have to look at all the 'Pace was a waste of money' or another 'Bryan Thomas was a horrible pick = Bradway really sux' thread. It's a lose/lose for some people.

Maybe its a New Yorker sort of thing :( But as an out of state Jet fan I'm pretty happy to see the jets Defense playing well as an unit and I'm looking forward to the real tests coming up in the next 2 games.

Gholston has two guys in front of him who are playing well. So I wouldn't get too discouraged about his lack of progress. It takes time to make a transition to OLB. Just ask LaMarr Woodley in Pittsburgh.

If Gholston were a starter and doing nothing, I'd be much more concerned. But it's no problem for right now.

Don't bother with him. He doesn't understand football. I'm not sure he even watches.

i think there are a couple of things that are working our minds with gholston....

    1. the hangover from bryan thomas - ok not drafted as high and performing OK but you get the picture.

    2. the enormous contract - if i am the owner i want a better return after 9 games than i have gotten. a sack or 2 would do just fine.

That did not effect Mangold. He steped in and made the line calls from day one. Do not blame Ohio State for this.

The bigger reason is almost all rookie pass rushers do not have big seasons. Few and far between are guys that come out nad dominate the NFL right away as a pass rusher. Add to that Gholston is learning a new postion and the two guys in front of him are playing great and I have few worries to this point.

H'mm if he was our 6th round draft pick instead of the 6th overall draft pick he would already be history & we would not even be discussing him. Just another medicore player who we choose who did not make it in the NFL

If he was a 6th round pick there would not be a thread about him every week. People like you would have to find other things to bitch about, but I have no doubts that you would find them.

Seriously, can we just get over the fact that we're not expecting anything from him this year? We own one of the best defenses in the NFL. Who honestly was expecting him to throw up 15 sacks this year?

Here's the bottom line. i know Gholston is making a big transition and all that but he looks like one of the WORST professional football players i've ever seen play the game. He looks completely lost out there. We expected him to look raw, but no one expected him to look like he's never stepped on a football field before. i am not calling him a bust because i know he will improve, but it's hard to imagine him ever reaching the talent level we hoped for when he was drafted. But who knows, anything can happen
