Great read on Al Toon after all the beatings his cranium took, glad to see him doing so well and leading a normal and productive life!! http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spwhere165929649nov16,0,4146141.story
Great read. I was really afraid this would be one of those Earl Campbell horror stories. It would really be nice if the Jets invited Toon back to be on the sidelines just for one game this season.. Showing some love for one of the best TE's this franchise has ever suited up.
My bad... Still, he deserves some recognition from the franchise. Perhaps not to the extent of Byrd, but something just to say: Thanks Al
I have alwasy felt he was far better than anyone to ever play the WR position for this team and that includes both Sauer and Maynard. The guy was an incredible athlete a joy to watch.
His son Nick is a freshman wideout at Wisconsin, unfortunately he is like 4 on the depth chart and the Badgers are primarily a running team, but he definitely has talent.
I completely agree. If he hadn't retired because of concussions, not only do I think that he would have gone down as the best receiver in NY Jets history, I honestly think he had a chance to be one of the best receivers in the history of the NFL. He was that talented. Good to see he is doing well for himself.
He was on one side ( Toon ) and Wesley Walker was on the other if I am not mistaken. Both class acts in my eyes and I loved to see them play at shea.
great read. i remember back in the day when my friend and i would argue about who's better... toon or rice? al toon certainly had the talent to be in the discussion. it's just too bad that he had all those concussions and no qb after ken o'brien.
I remember the TOOOOOOOOOOOOON chants. the guy has class. One hellava football player. I'm glad he's doing well. I still have my old # 88 shirt. PS looks like we'll be playing a 10-0 team next week. YIKES!
An all time great NY Jet. Wesley Walker and Al Toon have to be the two greatest WR to put on the green. As a Patriot fan, this man, #88, scared the dog-doo out of all of us Pats fans.
